Are you a devotee of the darling and daring looks shared on our Style Gallery? And now, welcome to our Style Gallery Star Sighting! First on the scene, is Amy M.

Hailing from Snellville, GA, Amy’s retro pics on the Style Gallery have charmed our hearts and sent ‘em reeling over vintage frames, scarves, pendants, and purses. She can polish any piece into a posh ’40s- or ’50s-inspired outfit pic with the perf setting and pose! Our feature offers an inside look at her savvy sensibility, but check out her style blog, A Loo’s Closet, too!

“Honestly, I don’t like the word ‘fashion’ because I associate it with trends that come and go very quickly,” Amy says. “I like the word ‘style’ much better because I feel that style is much more personal than fashion, and style stands the test of time. My style icons are basically any young woman pictured in vintage photos from the 1940s. I tend to blow Pinterest to smithereens with those gals.”

“I find myself reaching for my silk scarves to wear on my head almost daily now,” says Amy on her signature head scarf look. “I’ve perfected styling my hair that way, and it’s becoming my signature look pretty fast! I probably overdo it, but I just love it so much!”

So pretty! How does she get her headscarf to do that? I’ve tried many times but either my head is too big and full of hair or my scarves are too small, because I have never been able to make it work.
How about a step by step, foolproof tutorial on how to tie a headscarf like that–including what to do with your hair–eh, modcloth? :)

Tell me about your eyeglasses! Where did you find those awesome hornrimmed frames?

    • Amy M. 08/07/2013 at 6:04 pm #

Haha, I’m not sure what you mean by “horn-rimmed”, but I get most of mine on eBay and here on ModCloth, of course! I use seller deadstocksunglasses on eBay for a lot of my glasses: http://stores.ebay.com/DeadStockVintageSunglasses. Hope this helps!

      • Mega 08/08/2013 at 7:29 am #

Thanks Amy! and “horn-rimmed” is an old timey bit of lexicon used by my grandma.. meaning pointed at the sides, brainy-chique, or glasses that are intentionally part of a look. Usually but not always, tortoise shell. I refuse the laser surgery trend, and sport my vintage glasses, I have many! Thanks for the tip on ebay seller, you are the best!

      • Dee 08/13/2013 at 2:06 pm #

        Wikipedia sez:
Horn-rimmed glasses are a type of eyeglasses. Originally made out of either horn or tortoise shell, for most of their history they have actually been constructed out of thick plastics designed to imitate those materials. They are characterized by their bold appearance on the wearer’s face, in contrast to metal frames, which appear less pronounced.

    • Amy M. 08/08/2013 at 6:03 pm #

Ah, I see. Glad I could help! Have fun! :-) And if I ever had to wear real glasses, I’d go vintage or vintage-inspired frames all the way.

All of these outfits are so unique and definitely show ones personality. They are absolutely stunning! I adore color and something that looks unique. My style is probably toned down and has a cool edge to all of your outfits. If I saw you in the grocery store I would practically die to see someone actually showing off their personality through clothes that are most likely not in fashion but still stylish and stunning.

  16. Emily M 08/15/2013 at 6:03 pm #

I really like your outfits and individuality, Amy! Your blog has inspired me to start one, too!
