While it can be all too easy to complicate things when it comes to your holiday decor, sometimes the best and most simple solutions can be found in your own backyard.

If you’ll be setting the table for guests this holiday season, handmade placeholders are a fun and festive way to dress up your table. Today, we’ll show you how to add a quick and easy flourish to your festive feast with a gilded leaf placeholder, using materials you mostly likely already have!

Materials:
Leaves (we used hydrangea leaves, which stay fresh late in the season)
Gold paint
Gold pen
Acrylic paints or pens
A small paintbrush

1. Begin by choosing your leaves. The flatter, the better, as you’ll be writing on them. Be sure to grab some back-ups.

2. Using your gold pen, trace the edges of your leaf. Add additional gleam by dipping your paintbrush into the paint, and lightly coating the leaf.

3. Continue tracing each leaf, tracing the edges and any guiding lines.

4. Finish by painting each guests name in your desired color using acrylic paint or a paint pen. Once your leaves are dry, set your table — we used the Planks for Hosting Dinner Plate Set, Toasting the Host Glass Set, and the Princess and the Recipe Tea Towel Set — and place a leaf on each plate!
