Unexpected Holiday Movie Favorites

While the joy of a classic holiday movie can’t be denied, even time-honored films like Miracle on 34th Street and It’s a Wonderful Life can start to feel a bit stale. To help freshen up my holiday movie lineup, I polled the offices, asking fellow ModEmployees what their less traditional holiday film favorites may be. Check out their answers, below, and be sure to check out Donovan’s Reef and We’re No Angels, two of my personal holiday faves!

Edward Scissorhands! I love the scene where the Dad is drunkenly singing & stapling cotton on to the roof… “I saw three ships come sailing in, on Christmas day in the mooooorning”!”
- Susan, Chief Creative Officer

“I love The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo as a holiday movie. It has snow in it and a Christmas related ending, so it sort of fits. I always watch it about a thousand times during this season.”
- Bonnie, Customer Care Advocate

Midnight in The Garden of Good and Evil.”
- Shelby, Customer Care Advocate

Die Hard is my favorite Christmas movie ever! As for other unconventional holiday movies: Lethal Weapon, Batman Returns, and Trading Places.”
- Ashley B., Care Communications & Training Apprentice

“Don’t forget that Die Hard 2: Die Harder also takes place during Christmas. I also think Scrooged, with Bill Murray, is an underrated holiday movie.”
- Steph, UI Developer & Designer

Gremlins!”
- Kate, Care ModStylist Associate Lead

Go! takes place right around Christmas. It makes me feel like my holidays are so boring.”
- Ryan, Customer Care Advocate

The Lethal Weapon series and the Harry Potter series. No shame.”
- Jen S., Care ModStylist

Just Friends.
- Andy, Senior Visual Merchandise Photographer

“My family tradition is to watch The Princess Bride!
- Emily, Graphic Designer

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.”
- Erica, Emerging Media Manager

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang! One of the few movies I could pretty much watch on a loop.”
- Rachel WP, Customer Care Advocate

“Is The Nightmare Before Christmas one? Or is that still too Christmasy… I’ll keep thinking…”
- Steph, Customer Care Advocate

I have watched Kiss Kiss Bang Bang on a loop, once regular, and once commentary, and again regular. >.< It is one of the best movies ever and I barely know anyone who knows of it or likes it, so I was so thrilled to see it on this list. It has been played many times by me over the past 7 to 8 years since I found out about it! Yey!

I have to agree with Gremlins and also Catch Me If You Can! There’s a lot of Christmas scenes in that movie.

Rachel is serving up some extra awesomesauce for listing Kiss Kiss Bang Bang! Such a criminally underrated (and hilarious) movie.

My two are Bell, Book and Candle, and American Psycho. Very different, very Christmas-y.

Bell, Book, and Candle! I love that movie and you are the first person other than my mom and I to know of it.

‘While You Were Sleeping’ is a must for me at Christmastime. I like to watch it while snuggled up with my hubby, but I think he would definitely prefer Batman or Lethal Weapon!

Ooh yes Trading Places and Planes, Trains and Automobiles! Two of my favourites :)

Lethal weapon for sure. Also Fargo, The Shining are a must for the cold holiday season.

Excuse the type-o. Fargo AND The Shining :)
