Dear ModCloth Peeps,
There’s always excitement in the air when New York Fashion Week begins. The fashion industry is busy hustling all over Manhattan to see what trends are in store for the season. My first day covering the scene was bitterly cold, so I opted for a vintage-inspired mini tweed shift, a thick black wool moto coat, and a large felt hat (check it out below).
For those of you who have not been to a NYFW show at the Lincoln Center before, the vibe has completely changed. In hopes of keeping out NYFW crashers, the tents are now guarded at multiple checkpoints that are hard to break. Despite the intimidating door situation, my first day lineup prevailed and I hit up some of the greats, like Jay Godfrey, BCBG, Desigual, and Erin Fetherston.
Just me in my Day 1 ‘fit.

So onto the fashion:
The BCBG show was impressive and wearable. The coats were to die for and most looks were accompanied by large, oversized beanies. I can guarantee that the women of NYC will be complementing even the chicest of outfits with said beanies.
The Jay Godfrey presentation was held inside the basement of the Hudson hotel (a.k.a. The Hub), and it was a mix of everything I love: leather, fringe, and sequins. And I obviously wanted all of their colorful felt hats (trending in New York: cool hats).
Before the show at Desigual.
At Desigual, each seat came with a custom-printed iPhone 5 phone case and a laptop case (score!). The show was upbeat and the models danced their way down the runway in bold printed frocks. After Desigual I stopped by the Brandon Son presentation in the Meatpacking District, where there was a cool bohemian set up and gluten-free brownies, then I wrapped at Erin Fetherston’s presentation across town.

All in all it was a great first day. It’s not only inspiring to see the runway looks but the awesome street style, too. After hitting up a couple of after parties and a slice of $1 street pizza, I was out like a light and ready for Day 2.
See you out there.
