What’s the best part about being a model?
The best part about being a plus size model is showing women that you can still be fashion forward AND curvy. I think it is crucial for young girls and women alike who aren’t standard sizes to see models who actually look like them. When I go shopping I want to see how clothes will look on MY body – it encourages me to be comfortable in my own skin. I also love the diverse array of people I get to meet on shoots. I love learning about people and discovering how different, yet alike, we all truly are.
What goes through your head when you’re in front of the camera?
Don’t blink . . . don’t blink . . . oops. I blinked. I think I need to go to the bathroom? When’s lunch? I love this dress! What time is it? Did I feed the dog? What day is it? I’d love some garlic fries right now . . . don’t blink . . . don’t blink . . .
Outside of modeling, what dreams, careers, or hobbies are you pursuing?
When I was in college, I spent 6 months living in Prague and attended film school there. It was there that I realized I could combine my love for film and fashion, and I have been working in wardrobe ever since. I love bringing different roles to life on film and seeing how wardrobe helps actors transform into their characters.
When you’re not in front of the camera, what’s your go-to outfit?
I like to be comfortable above anything, and I like to flaunt my curves, not hide them. If I’m just running errands or hanging out with friends, then you’ll find me in my black high-waisted jeans, a baggy tee, a comfy sweater, and some boots. If I’m heading for a night out, I love a tea-length skirt with a crop top to add some flair, and of course, some cool boots.
What makes a person beautiful?
I believe that people who are ambitious, creative, intelligent, courageous, risk-tasking, compassionate, and genuine (among many other things) are the most beautiful souls in the world. I believe that our society focuses a lot of time and energy into ways to make ourselves more “beautiful” on the outside with tons of products, but I hope that, in the future, we can focus on being beautiful inside and out.
What advice would you give to aspiring models?
Stay true to yourself, and find your brand. Modeling is a competitive industry, but if you stay humble and grounded, then people will respect you. Every model is different, even if two models wear the same size, so don’t compare yourself to others. Instead, get to know people, and treat others with respect, even if they don’t reciprocate it. If you stay true to yourself, then you’ll garner a great reputation that will take you much further in life.
What’s your hidden talent, guilty pleasure, or surprising expertise?
A few months ago, I reupholstered my dining room set with nothing but a staple gun and a few yards of fabric, and I have plans to re-paint my dresser to give it a fresher look. More embarrassing is my love for awful reality TV shows. I won’t name any as to not embarrass myself further, but I’m talking AWFUL REALITY TV. I share a Netflix account with one of my best guy friends, and he is genuinely concerned sometimes by the things that come up in our queue or recently watched section. Oops!
