You’ve Gotta See Lauren Moffatt’s First Plus-Sized Dress

It’s no secret that we here at ModCloth have a soft spot for New-York based designer Lauren Moffatt. Her collections, which are decidedly feminine, always feature a range of pieces that are both print-focused and high-quality — a killer combo if you ask us. And while Moffatt certainly isn’t new blood to the fashion landscape — she launched her eponymous label back in 2000 — this month marks the East Coaster’s first foray into the plus-size market. And here’s the fun part: We were lucky enough to snag her first design. Yes, Moffatt’s first plus-sized piece is currently on ModCloth.com (scroll up, that’s it!).

We caught up with the budding creative to get a bit of background on the dress, as well as the scoop on her coveted spring line. Check out what she had to say:

lauren moffattYour Spring 2014 collection is rich in light pastels and fun, oceanside-y prints, do you just love the seaside?
I love going to the beach as soon as East Coast weather permits, and this was a collection of all things summer and beachy. The inspiration came from what summer means to me, easy, casual, comfortable dressing.

Why did you want to do a plus-sized dress for ModCloth?
I want our pieces to be enjoyed by anyone who likes them, so to have a such a wide size range available is fabulous. I am so excited to have this particular dress available in plus size as it’s such a flattering silhouette, in a really wearable print. ModCloth has a great range in the market and to be able to be a part of the new plus-size category was an opportunity for us to venture into a new category.

Tell me more about the piece — where do you see the girl going in it?
I see her with her sleeves rolled up, wearing it as a casual day dress and running errands around town — it’s what really makes this style so special. It can look quite carefree and undone or a bit more put together depending on the styling. It’s just super versatile. I love to see real girls wearing our stuff around town.

Let’s transition to your own personal shopping trends — what are you on the hunt for this season?
I’m on the lookout for the perfect vintage Levi’s right now. I love a classic jean and can’t seem to find in the market what I’m looking for.

Curious that her first plus-sized dress is not on a plus-sized model. Where is the sense in that?

I love the clothes, but for anyone who is not a waif, your clothes are too small. Your sizes do not fit through bust or back of anyone who works out.

I am attracted to Mod Cloth because I am so into the vintage look. I would do more shopping here if their were more tea length dresses. I am 64 years old but I dress very young and modish, I love the majority of your clothing only not the short mini length would some one please create dresses with the tea and or just below the knee length. Some of your clothing would be gorgeous in that length and just right for someone in my age group,
