With May 11th right around the corner, why not show the number one style icon in your life just how much she inspires you? I’m talking about your mom, of course! Knowing how much my own mother’s personal style has influenced me throughout the years — some of her prairie dresses from the ’70s are now in heavy rotation in my own wardrobe — I sent out the call for “vintage” pics of our ModEmployee’s moms. Out of the many submissions, I chose the three below to restyle on the employees themselves.

Check out how I reimagined these three looks from decades past below, then let us know in the comments how you’re planning to honor your mother on her special day.

Lauren: Taking notes from Lauren’s mom’s orange ’70s stripes and neutral combination, I reinterpreted the look with a classic fit-and-flare dress in tones reminiscent of the decade, and vintage-inspired clogs that mirror the red and orange stripes of her top.

In this outfit: Web Design Workshop Dress, Put It In Neutral Jacket, Firefly Lake Heel, Rays Your Spirits Necklace, Buckle Up Satchel.

Katie: I loved Katie’s mom’s chic, charcoal-hued wrap dress and strappy black heels. To breathe new life into the look, I chose a chambray dress in a similar hue that features V-shaped stripes, and black flats that look super similar to the ones her mom is wearing in the photo.

In this outfit: Karin’s Get With the Pro-Glam Dress, Charter School Cardigan in Charcoal, Classic Touch Jacket, Sunset in Your Ways Flat, An Eye for the Ethereal Necklace, Mountaintop Mist Bag.

Christen: While Christen’s aunt’s polka-dot wedding dress is a showstopper in this pic, I loved the simplicity of her mom’s white dress, blue sash, and classic gold watch. To take from the look, I chose similar colors for her main pieces, but added interest with a patterned scarf and modern accessories.

In this outfit: Sweet Spirited Top, Strumming the Sound Skirt, Morning, Swoon, and Night Heel, When in Venice Bag, Prettiest Girl in the Plume Scarf, Teacup and Running Watch, On a Grand Scale Necklace.

About Julie O.

A lover of all things vintage and vintage-inspired, Julie bought her first 1950s frock in the fifth grade. Since then, Julie has become a self-described connoisseur of vintage and thrift shopping, which she shares on her blog, Orchid Grey. When she’s not scouring the racks for the perfect vintage skirt, this native New Englander can be found deftly navigating the slopes of a ski mountain, taking road-trips to the beach, and exploring new places with a vintage camera in her hand.
