Normally, when you hear a bride talk about mud on her wedding day, the conversation is accompanied by tears. Not so when it comes to newlywed Rochelle, who generously submitted her #MarriedInModCloth wedding day story to us. Read on for Rochelle’s tips for finding the perfect dress, and to find out how Rochelle reacted when her sweetheart fell in the mud!
Newlyweds: Rochelle and Mark, college professors who met in graduate school.
Date and location of your wedding: March 8, 2014 in Kilberry, Scotland.
Tell us about your big day: We eloped, just the two of us, to Scotland. We got married on a beach in the middle of nowhere. The best part was practicing our vows together in the cottage kitchen the morning before the ceremony, the two of us (me with rollers in my hair), drinking wine and committing to each other in the privacy of the kitchen in front of the fireplace. It was a beautiful, wonderful day. I couldn’t have imagined being happier on my wedding day.
We heard Mark may have had a mishap? Marc fell in the mud on the way to the beach. Plopped right down — mud covering his entire back. Even splashed mud on my dress. And, when the innkeepers looked at us like we were going to be mad, I just burst out laughing. I couldn’t stop laughing because it was hysterical. I planned a wedding on the beach in the middle of nowhere. If I weren’t prepared for a little mud, then it was my fault. Besides, Marc talked about the fall in his vows later: That in our marriage and life, we’ll fall, but, we always have to get back up.
What was your first dance song? John Legend’s “All of Me.”
Tell us about the dress you’re wearing: I love vintage-inspired pieces that are comfortable. I’m wearing a Darling brand dress from Modcloth and a white skirt, also from ModCloth. I’m also wearing a vintage 1940s embellished cardigan and a white fascinator from House of Fraser.
Any words of wisdom for brides-to-be out there who still haven’t found the perfect dress? Look for inspiration in your everyday clothes. I wear a lot of vintage-inspired pieces in my everyday wardrobe, so I looked for those when shopping for my dress. I wanted people to see my dress and immediately say that it was so “me.” (And, they did.) Also, don’t be afraid to think outside the box — I loved wearing the skirt over the dress to add more volume.
Thank you for sharing your gorgeous wedding day with us, Rochelle!
