Over the last couple of weeks we’ve been jamming to Sylvan Esso’s debut album. The video for their debut single, “Coffee,” explores love and relationships through the metaphor of dance. In it, we watch as the duo attends an awkward house party,  a ’50s-style backyard swing dance, and ultimately, the video culminates with singer Amelia Meath — decked out in her finest color-blocked leotard —  finding her place among friends at the center of a full-on dance party.

What do you get when you mix the streets of Brooklyn and an emerging performer with sidewalk-scoring moves? Simply put, an impressive  music video executed in one shot. “Hideawayis the debut single from newcomer Kiesza, and the video features some rad ’90s fashion to go along with its dance club vibe. At any given time you can spot a combo of serious-steppers in stone-washed jeans and high-tops,  denim cut-offs, bustier bras, Harem pants — there’s even some gratuitous flannel action — and plenty of coveralls.

Sometimes, the very best dance is interpretive. In tUnE-yArDs’ video “Bizness,” singer Merrill Garbus stays true to her DIY distinction with fresh face paint, feathered costumes (unruly kids — the best!), and bold moves translating her message of artful ambitions against the limitations of industry. Luckily, she’s not short on friends to boost her up or just share in a good shout.
