Quick, picture a wedding in your mind. What imagery comes to the forefront? A long white dress? Lots of family gathered ’round? While there’s certainly nothing wrong with a traditional wedding, we love it when engaged couples eschew the expected and just do what’s right for THEM. Whether it’s eloping to Scotland or getting hitched at an aviation museum, if there’s one thing ModCloth-minded twosomes have proven, it’s that they’re not afraid of doing something different and getting creative for their wedding day.
So, when recently wed Laura sent us her #MarriedInModCloth survey and photos from her big day, we were definitely swooning. Oh, and did we mention the groom wore ModCloth? Check out her story below:
Newlyweds: Laura, a primary school teacher, and Andrew, an accountant.
How did you two meet? We met when we both were part of a TV documentary when we were teenagers.
When did you get married? Married in August 2012 in Brighton UK.
Onto the big day, tell us about it! We only had two witnesses and a friend taking photos with us. We got married in the town hall, but exchanged rings at the end of Brighton Pier and then went on rides and ate fish and chips! We didn’t tell anyone — apart from three friends — until after we were married. It was a bit of a shock for our parents to get the call saying we’d just gotten married. They had no idea!
What was the most memorable part of your wedding? Going on the “Helta Skelta” (a carnival ride) and the carousel on Brighton Pier together after the ceremony.
What was your first dance song? Friends’ “I’m his girl.”
Can you tell us a bit about what you chose to wear? We wanted a really casual, seaside theme. My husband is wearing the Cry-ceratops Men’s Tee, which I bought him from ModCloth, and I’m wearing a beautiful Betsey Johnson dress.
Any sage advice to pass along for those who are still stumped on what to wear for their wedding day? Just go for something you love and feel beautiful in. Needs to be comfy too, you’re in it a long time!
Thank you so much for sharing your wedding story with us, Laura!
