It’s officially summer, which means we can start focusing our attention on what really matters: food, fireworks, and summer fashion. With the 4th of July holiday coming up next Friday, nothing feels fresher than the combination of red, white, and blue, but the pairing can all too easily go from sweet to channeling Uncle Sam. And while we’re not knocking patriotism, there’s more than one way to don the colors of the season.
Today, we’ve asked ModEmployee Christen to model two looks: One that’s low-key and ideal for a relaxed backyard shindig, and another that’s perfectly suited for a concert in the park and an evening of fireworks. Check ‘em out below:
If your 4th of July plans involve a bonfire and plenty of friends, choose a look that includes rugged denim and sturdy wedges. If you’re hesitant to don full-on Independence Day colors, opt for a subtle nod towards the trend by using white and blue as your base, with pops of red peppered throughout (check out Christen’s bold red lip and red-tinged necklace). A roomy bag is the perfect place to stash a blanket to sit on or an extra layer in case it gets cold.
While we love a backyard BBQ, Independence Day also offers up plenty of opportunities to get dressed up. For a park-side picnic and an evening of fireworks, don a dress in a classic silhouette that boasts an eye-catching red, white, and blue pattern. To keep from getting too matchy, break up your color-coordinated look with a bright yellow bag (perfect for stashing a few sparklers), a dark navy mani, and wedges in a hue of the same color family, but slightly different (we love the ashy-blue color of these strappy wedges).
