I first got ombré in 2010, and I’m not saying that to make you think I put my proverbial stamp on the gradient hair trend way before it became de rigueur, because believe me when I say, I’m no style-setter. I’m sharing that personal timestamp with you because I’d like to think I’m reasonably in-the-know when it comes to most major fashion and beauty happenings — it’s my wheelhouse, so to speak. So you’ll understand, then, why I’m surprised to find that there has been a growing hair trend – a close relative of the ombré dye job — that I’ve never heard of.
According to Byrdie, sombré is a super-glossy low-maintenance color and it’s totally happening for summer. “Sombré is ombré’s coy little sister,” Byride explains in the article. They even connected with celebrity colorist and sombré expert (…) Denis de Souza. “Forget the drastic contrast of dark roots and light ends, sombré is a much softer version of the ombré,” he told Byrdie, Still in need of some convincing, I took a quick poll around the office to see if anyone else could verify that, in fact, sombré was a thing, and by quick poll I mean I asked my seat neighbor Tatiana. “Have I heard of what?” she said. “Oh, maaaaybe?” That’s what we journalists like to refer to as solid evidence.
+ So while I may represent the sombré-less San Francisco set (for now), everyone else seems to be super hip to it. Sound off in the comments and let us know if you’ve heard of this subtle color sitch, then take a guess as to how long it will take me to go out and get it (told you).
