Contouring tutorials seem to be everywhere these days, but they tend to come with 25 steps and 10 different tools. Plus, the inch-thick makeup on your face at the end of it is not so “natural.” I’m here to tell you that there’s a much easier way to subtly contour your face that will work for everyday. With just 3 tools and an extra 5 minutes, you can bring out the features you want to highlight, while making the ones you don’t a little less noticeable.

Supplies (1)

You’ll need 2 concealers. One about 1-2 shades lighter than your natural skin tone, and the other about 2 shades darker. I chose to use Yves Saint Laurent’s Touche Éclat for its easy pen, but you can use whichever you like. Just make sure the consistency isn’t too thick for easy blending. You’ll also need a blending brush.

Start with the darker shade. To find the right spot, suck in your cheeks and paint in the hollow area just in front of your ear. Continue to paint under your chin, along the jawbone, on either sides of your chin, sides of the nose, and temples. You want to create more shadow to the areas you’d like to recede.

Next, take the lighter shade and paint under the eyes, on the bridge of the nose, on the chin, cupid’s bow, and center of forehead. You’re adding light to the areas you want to bring forward and highlight.

When you’re done, blend everything together using the blending brush. Be sure to blend into the hairline, down the neck, and into the ears. You want a seamless look with no edges.

Top with a translucent powder if you’d like a more matte finish and you’re done!

OH, GOD, MODCLOTH??? Not transphobia from you as well. This was one of the LAST places I actually safe and comfortable shopping as a trans woman. Honestly, sincerely upset. You can claim we’re over reacting, or you can accept that this is just hurtful. Really, I thought better of you as a company and as human beings.

Hi there! Apologies, but there’s been a terrible misunderstanding. The initial headline had absolutely nothing to do with the transgendered community, or any community for that matter, and was actually a pop culture reference. We love all of our readers, and are sorry for any confusion that it created.
