Quite a few ModLovers were crazy about the new functionality of the site, but missed some of the classic ModCloth touches. We did too!

Tell us about your personal style:

I love London style: the quirkiness, the edgy, outrageous aspects of their dressing style. Vivienne Westwood is one of my fashion idols, purely for the bizarre stuff she often wears. I also emulate Sienna Miller and Nicole Ritchie quite frequently. I believe fashion is all about self-expression, so I guess what I wear speaks for me. I would define my style as a crossroads between bohemian, vintage and eccentric.

What are some of your favorite blogs?

Oh god, I am blog-OBSESSED. Favorites include: Isa at Bohemian Musings, Karla at Karla’s Closet, Gala at Amlul, Susie at Stylebubble, The Stylish Wanderer, and finally, Frances at Happy-Because.

We love how you combine modern and vintage seamlessly in one outfit – any tips for getting your effortless look?

I think its important to not get too carried away with one brand or one look. Instead, match garments you would never anticipate working together and definitely always mix the new with the old. Also, charity-shops and thrift stores are brimming with great retro stuff: blazers and dresses are abundant – and long skirts can be snipped into shorter styles.

Favorite book?

I am literature-obsessed, and while I have dozens of loved books, I would say one that resonated very deeply with me is: Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys. The narrative form and dream-like description seems to soak right down to the soul. Its beautiful. Read it.

What inspired you to start your own blog?

The urge to express myself publicly but also all the other fashion blogger pros who have created sartorial empires out of their own thoughts and fashion ideas.

How much time do you spend on this blog?

I spend about an hour a day on my blog, reading everyone’s comments, posting my photos and ramblings. It is rather time-consuming, but I absolutely loveeee it!

Any tips for girls wanting to start their own fashion blogs?

Make sure you have a camera first. Most blog readers want to know about your own individual personal style, not exclusively that of celebrities – and always be original. These days there are sooo many fashion blogs, its crucial to stand out.

What was your most recent purchase?

I bought a used dusty pink blazer from a charity shop the other day for 2.00 pounds.  I simply adore it!

What is your fashion/styling rule?

Stay true to yourself, and dress the way you want to dress regardless of what others say or think. And finally, be creative!

You’re great at combining vintage and modern pieces into one seamless outfit – any tips on getting your effortless look?

Aw thank you! I guess my favorite thing to do is pair vintage dresses with more modern shoes – it just makes the outfit look a bit fresher, and I feel like I can pull off newer shoes better than, say, a super-modern dress or pair of pants or something that looks wonderful on other people but silly on me.

Tell us about your personal style:

I mostly wear vintage – sort of girly, romantic things, because they look best with my old fashioned pale skin and crazy hair, and also because I’m always watching old movies and getting inspired by them.

What style blogs do you follow?

Some recent favorites: Linnea’s Vintage Blog, Growin’ Up, Clever Nettle, and Casey’s Musings

Biggest fashion inspiration?

I suppose when it comes right down to it I’m most inspired by movies from the 1930s. I’m not crazy about ’30s dress lengths or some of the proportions, but there’s still so much to be inspired by in the ’30s films, whether it’s something frilly worn by a leading lady, a simple house dress in a pre-code film, or a Busby Berkeley chorus girl’s costume.

Favorite book?

It’s too hard! Lately I’ve been into books from the ’30s by Nancy Mitford and Evelyn Waugh, and at the moment I’m reading Faulkner’s “Absalom, Absalom!” and I’m loving its dark Southern nostalgia!

What inspired you to start your own blog?

I started it a little after I started selling vintage on Ebay, just as a place for store updates and things, but I got hooked on blogging!

You always have amazing finds from estate and yard sales – any retro shopping tips you can share with us?

Just check your local newspaper classifieds and Craigslist constantly for sales. The best garage sales are the ones run by little white-haired old ladies, and the best estate sales are the ones that are the hardest to find!

How much time do you spend on your blog?

Maybe around 2 hours a day, sometimes longer when I don’t know what to write about. It can take forever to get inspiration and put some photos together, but that’s probably because I’m a procrastinator. I’d say I’m usually writing blog posts from around 1 to 3 in the morning!

Any tips for girls wanting to start their own fashion blogs?

Join Wardrobe Remix or Chictopia or Modepass or any fashion communities that strike your fancy. Comment on other blogs a lot to get your name out there. And as far as blogging goes I think that the more personal blogs are the best – anyone can write a post about the latest Marc Jacobs collection, but only you can write a post on your own personal style and fashion outlook.

What was your most recent purchase?

A little black velvet bow hair comb from an estate sale!

What is your fashion/styling rule?

I guess to get away with wearing vintage without looking costume-y. Mixing decades, adding in more modern touches, playing with proportion to make vintage look a bit more interesting. I definitely don’t always achieve it though!

Over the past year, I’ve spent nearly every Saturday morning waking up to the sound of my mom’s voice. “You have 15 minutes”, my mom warns, “it’s time for estate sales.” This weekend was no different. 7:30 came, and like clockwork, my parents were at the front door. Our plan was mapped out and off we were to 5 of our favorite Pittsburgh neighborhoods.

Our first stop was an old row house in Pittsburgh’s Lawrenceville where I found a set of 4 vintage Pittsburgh Pirates patches ($3). I’m kind of a fair weather fan, so as soon as our baseball team starts playing well, I’ll probably sew one of these patches on to a jean jacket or a pair of pants.

The next stop was just up the street in Friendship. This sale was a bit too modern for my taste, but I’ve found that this type of sale can be a great source for the essentials: cassette tapes, kitchen items, and gardening supplies are all available at great prices. I picked up two flower pots for 2 bucks and the leather business purse below for $1.

Next up were the two best sales of the day. Lucky for us they were both located within walking distance of our house!

Definitely my absolute favorite finds to date, these vintage rompers were hidden under a giant pile of linens. It definitely pays to dig through the unknown. The blue patterned romper is in mint condition, and the floral romper is just incredibly unique. Unfortunately it’s going to take a bit of altering for these beauties to fit, but I can definitely see myself lounging in a pool, sipping cherry soda Lolita-style by the end of summer. And at $2 each, there is no way I could pass them up!

The faux fur collar ($2) is just the touch I needed to make warm weather outfits uniquely mine. I have been known to wear extremely warm layers in the middle of summer, so this piece will definitely get some use before it gets cold again.

I nearly passed up these amazing gypsy paintings for just 4 dollars! My boyfriend was kind enough to go back for them when I realized what I was missing out on. They don’t exactly match my interior design aesthetic, but the young girl’s style will definitely inspire me to pair a poofy blouse with a denim vest at least once this spring!

My style tends to border on antique, so every once in a while I try to pick up a more modern piece. Originally priced at $15, I decided to walk away from this ceramic umbrella holder. After a few hours I decided to head back to the sale for half off (Tip: Estate sales sometimes go 1/2 off after 1:00). Luckily it was still there, and I’m glad it was, because it fits perfectly on my 60s-themed porch!

We dropped my dad off and snuck in two more stops. I picked up the lovely hatbox above (which I plan to use as a purse) and red kisslock purse. After a hard days work, my mom treated my boyfriend and I to brunch. All in all, I’d say this trip was definitely a success!

Who: Hannah Saitta, a girl from the Californian desert who often dreams of shopping, her upcoming high school graduation, and her future life in the real world.

What: Wine & black lace 80’s dress and a vintage satin-bowed Nordstrom clutch

Where: The dress is from a charitable store in Palm Springs, California and the purse is from a local antique store in Yucca Valley, California.

How Much: $8 for the dress, $9 for the purse

When I use it: I wear this dress with a combination of stilettos, vending machine rings, lace gloves and an 80s up-do, I used these articles to rock my senior prom.

Shopping Tips: Don’t buy something because everyone else has it. Buy something because no one else has it.

Shopping Tips: Try everything on-you may have to devote an entire afternoon to a store, but the feeling of finding something amazing is irreplaceable. This jacket was labeled a petite–I am 5′10”–far from petite, but I feel I still rock it fairly well.

And we love that she paired it with the Desert Rose Tunic!
