What can I say about Fashion Chalet? Erika’s outfits are like a lovely stream of concision narrative that tracks her days in sleek lines, high heels, ballet slippers, leather, sequins, and tulle. Each entry is another chapter in her story of style. If you haven’t visited her blog yet, you’ll be hooked on her looks. Her staple accessory? Her long locks. As soon as you think you’ve categorized her style, she’ll switch from a sexy sheath dress to laid-back jeans. You never know what you’re going to get when you visit her blog, and that’s why you keep coming back for more.

Read on to see some of her ModCloth picks and get the inside scoop in our interview with her. And don’t forget to check out her namesake dress!

What is your fashion/styling rule? Any tips for getting your look?
I pick one part of the body to showcase – either legs -(bottom half) or arms -(upper half) unless it’s Summertime, I think it is always best to leave room for some Mystery. Black, grey and navy look good on just about everybody- it’s always key to have some basics in these colors on hand.

Favorite style icon?
I like to call my favorite style Modern Audrey, meaning classic, decadent, veering always on a more feminine side, yet still encompassing some edge and modernity to it all.

Favorite movie?
Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Up.

Is there a specific era that influences your style?
There are so many, but probably the ’50s and ’80s, mostly.

What style blogs do you follow?
I am enamored with so many Photo blogs out there (Little Plastic Horses, Knight Cat, tumblr, Stardust and Sequins). I also hold Street Style blogs close to my heart (Jak & Jil, StockholmStreetStyle, Garance Dore, Streethearts).

What inspired you to start your own blog?
A deep love for wanting to share what I was wearing with the world. I’ve always taken outfit photos of my looks – ever since high school - but I never really had a proper place to share them on. One day I started to see blogs popping up and decided to give it a whirl!

When you’re not blogging, what are your other hobbies?
Reading, dancing, shopping, cooking, spending time with my family, traveling…

Any tips for girls wanting to start their own fashion blogs?
Blog often, and about anything and everything you love. The rest will follow… and above all, always make sure to identify what you are wearing. Inquiring minds want to know!

And last but not least – if you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead, who would it be?
Julian Casablancas from The Strokes. I want to know how he comes up with his intense lyrics and sweltering beats.

Plus, don’t for get to check out the Fashion Chalet Dress!

I found out about Karen’s blog, Where Did U Get That when I noticed she was wearing our vest (pictured above) in a photo on an online gallery of bloggers. I thought: Why haven’t I discovered this blog yet?! I love how edgy all of Karen’s looks are – the way she pairs ladylike silhouettes with leather and fringe. She wears the highest heels imaginable and thigh-high boots so effortlessly that you almost don’t notice how daring some of her looks are. And her outfit photos are always amazing!

Read on to hear a little bit about what inspires her style, see some of her favorite ModCloth items, and get first dibs on her namesake dress.

You’re originally from England, but now call New York City home. Has moving to NYC changed your style at all? If so, how?
I don’t think it has really. I still shop at thrift and vintage shops like I used to in London and still mix those items in with high street and random boutiques. The only change, if anything, is I’ve added in some higher-end shoe brands that I had not ever done before in London.

What is your fashion/styling rule? Any tips for getting your look?
I don’t have any rules per se except to maybe always keep it casual. Even if I’m dressing up for a night out, there has to be something a bit undone or edgy before I walk out the door. Tips? Shop vintage and thrift especially for jewelery and Fryes. Mix up fabrics in the same color ie. today I happen to be wearing black sequins with a sheer black T and black scarf and old black leather boots.

Favorite style icon?
I love Zoe Kravitz for her effortless throw-on anything on look–much of it being vintage.

Favorite movie?
Style wise, I LOVE Almost Famous with Kate Hudson. She looked amazing and her outfits were BEYOND sick. I also LOVE the styling of Patricia Arquette from the movie True Romance. So girly-punk with loads of color. Funnily enough, she wears a faux-fur leopard coat that I happened to have just bought recently.

Is there a specific era that inspires your style?
I love the look of the 70s–a la Charlies Angels. The tight jeans with flared out bottoms, the flowy hair. The whole thing just looks KILLER and very sexy and has been updated and made more relevant today by a lot of denim brands (LOVE my flares by 18th Amendment). I also love the mod 60s Twiggy look. So ground breaking at the time with the straight clean lines and heavy eyeliner.

What style blogs do you follow?
I read about 15 a day, give or take, but always gravitate to certain sites which include: KnightCat, Carolines Mode, Refinery 29.

What inspired you to start your own blog?
Two things: 1. I wanted an outlet to express my passion about clothing and fashion. 2. I used to follow loads of bloggers for a couple of years and thought to myself ‘why am I not doing this?’ It looks so me.

When you’re not blogging, what are your other hobbies?
Honestly I love shopping and finding new boutiques.

Any tips for girls wanting to start their own fashion blogs?
If you love fashion, styling, clothes etc, then that in itself will be your driving motivator to want to get it going. You don’t need someone to take your pics either. Many use a remote control that works great. Be prepared to devote a lot of time to blogging. It takes up a surprising amount of time, but just go for it!! What do you have to lose?

So read on to hear what she has to say in her interview, find out her favorite ModCloth items, and get the first glimpse at her namesake dress.

How did you get interested in fashion?
I started to experiment when I was around 14, but I was a typical self-conscious teenager. I knew I wanted to look a little different but I wasn’t sure about how to achieve it – then I found the Internet! There are endless amounts of inspiring people on the Internet, and that taught me that I didn’t need to fit into the mold that people in my small town had imposed, and I started to become a little more creative. I’m still a little slack when it comes to keeping up-to-date with the latest runway looks, but that’s something I’m working on!

How would you define your personal style?
That’s always a question I find difficult to answer – I think my personal style is still developing. Anyone that visits WishWishWish will probably associate me with polka dots and bows, but with time that’s changing – I’m slowly adding more black into my wardrobe, and I’m even on the lookout for a pair of big black boots! I love all things feminine and childlike (think rompers and Peter-Pan collars) but at the same time I’m falling in love with a more tomboy look. Shorts and bow ties please!

What is your fashion/styling rule? Any tips for getting your look?
Don’t be too serious! And follow your gut instinct. If you think “WOW” when you first see an item on the hanger, then it’s usually a winner. Less of the impulse buys and focus on the staples; a black high-waisted skirt, some baggy shorts, a beautiful silk blouse. Always top off an outfit with layers of quirky jewelery!

Favorite style icon?
At the moment, my style icon is Alexa Chung. I know she’s an obvious choice (she’s in all the best-dressed lists) but I’ve fallen in love with the way she mixes pretty dresses with big boots. It always seems so effortless with her – a baggy T-shirt with a skirt can look almost glamorous! I love that she is genuinely interested in fashion, and the fact that she sometimes makes mistakes makes her all the more endearing.

Favorite movie?
Oh no! The dreaded movie question! If I’m honest, most of the time I end up watching whatever my boyfriend puts on, but there have been a few stand-outs. This is going to sound completely obvious and unimaginative, but I love Le fabuleux destin d’Amelie Poulain. No matter how sickly-sweet and cliche you might think it is, it never fails to give me that happy feeling in my stomach. Everyone loves a love story. Plus, the soundtrack is amazing!

Favorite book?
This is another tough one. I really don’t read as much as i’d like to (blogging and University keep me busy!) despite studying English Literature for two years! I love Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov, it’s a great read. And also The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky for those cliched lines that make you smile, it contains issues that so many teenagers can relate to.

Is there a specific era that inspires your style?
2009! Haha, no, I’m really not sure. I’m a huge fan of vintage, but I loved it mixed up in a more modern way. I love elements of 40s fashion, the shapes of 50s fashion, and the short hemlines of 60s fashion, but all with a more modern twist. Vintage fashion is definitely my favorite kind.

What style blogs do you follow?
Far too many! Like everybody else on the internet, I’m an avid reader of Susie’s Stylebubble.co.uk, and had the pleasure of sharing a bus journey with her just a few weeks ago. I also love the beautiful pictures on Niotillfem and of course, previous Blogger of the Moment, The Clothes Horse.

What inspired you to start your own blog?
I’d been interested in Web design since I was much younger, and planned for WishWishWish to be a website mainly about graphic design inspiration and photography, but it turned out a little differently! I love having my own little bit of the Internet. It’s great to be able to put not only your pictures and creative ventures online, but also your opinion – and to get great feedback is the best feeling.

When you’re not blogging, what are your other hobbies?
I’m a complete geek and spend most of my time on my computer! But when I’m not looking at blogs, I’m at university studying a degree in Fashion Design, Styling, and Promotion.

Any tips for girls wanting to start their own fashion blogs?
It’s tough putting yourself out there on the Internet, because it can be such a negative place sometimes, but you really have to go for it! Receiving your first comment is so exciting, and there are so many girls in the blogosphere that are there to support you. I think the recipe for a successful blog is to have interesting pictures, an individual layout, and of course, fabulous content – if you think you’ve got something to offer, go ahead and do it! Don’t forget to always be yourself.

If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead, who would it be and what food would you eat?
That’s a tough question. So many people have idols, and people they aspire to, but I’m not quite sure of mine right now. So I’ll be boring and say a night in with my boyfriend! And believe it or not, we’d eat my favorite kind of food – junk food. Chips and more chips.

You’ve already succeeded at creating an amazing blog. What are your other dreams/hopes/aspirations for the future?
I’m currently doing a fashion degree, but I’m not 100% sure if I know where I want that to take me. I’d love to fit in somewhere in this crazy industry! I hope I’m going to be somewhere doing something creative – and hopefully still blogging!

How can I sum up the marvelous blogger, The Clothes Horse, in just one paragraph?! She seems to exist in a wonderland of golden fields and pebble beaches. She can take one dress and show you how to wear it six different ways you’d never think of. Who is this urchin of fashion? Find out by reading our interview with her! Plus, see her lovely namesake dress and her favorite ModCloth picks.

How did you get interested in fashion?
I suppose it all started in junior high when I got “Fruits,” a book that compiled some of the best pictures from the Japanese street fashion magazine of the same name. I was immediately obsessed with how they dressed. It wasn’t until I was a senior in high school that I started reading fashion magazines and watching runways though. I feel I was always interested in “fashion” but I definitely started with the street and inspiration source and then discovered the more formal and usual interpretation of the word.

How would you define your personal style?
Colorful, quirky, and unintentionally ladylike. I wear a lot of pretty dresses, but I like to mix things up with eccentric extras, and color is the mainstay of my closet. My black section is woefully limited and I own next to no white or grey.

What is your fashion/styling rule? Any tips for getting your look?
I think just approaching your wardrobe with a sense of play. Intentionally wear pieces together that you haven’t before and look for colors that go nicely together, but aren’t typical (mustard and maroon for example). Also, add “quirky” touches that are a little more personal with very “normal” outfits: like vintage fascinators, knee socks with your wedges, and strange pendants on your necklaces.

Favorite style icon?
Sofia Coppola — I love the way she dresses, but I really admire her style when it comes to directing. She has a distinct vision that always comes across beautifully–that is personal style; it affects all aspects of your life and work, not just the way you dress.

Favorite movie?
Ooh, this is hard. I was raised on retro films, so I’m a bit of an old movie buff…If I really have to choose, maybe “Charade” starring Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant. The dialogue is very witty and the mystery definitely keeps you on your toes.

Favorite book?
This is probably even harder than choosing a favorite movie, because I’m a serious nerd who sometimes reads a book a day. “A Small Rain” by Madeleine L’Engle is one of my favorites.

Is there a specific era that inspires your style?
Not really; one of my favorite eras in fashion is the 20s, but that silhouette doesn’t really suit me. I feel I wear a lot of 50s shapes, but I would hate to associate myself with that era!

What style blogs do you follow?
Too many! Right now I’m really into Flying Saucer, Calivintage, The Cherry Blossom Girl, etc.

What inspired you to start your own blog? Do you still have a day job, or do you blog full-time?
I started my blog because I was inspired by so many other bloggers and I actually just wanted to be able to leave comments on their sites without them thinking I was strange! I just graduated from college in May and I’m still struggling with what is next. Right now, I am studying for law school and while I would like to make my blog my part-time job so I can continue doing it while I’m in law school or whatever is next, I don’t make enough money off my blog to support myself.

Any tips for girls wanting to start their own fashion blogs?
Only do it if it’s something you really love; passion really comes across in blogs. A blog can really consume your life if you enjoy doing it, but it can be exhausting if your heart isn’t in it. But fashion blogs are only one option, if you love something else you can blog about that!

You’ve already succeeded at creating an amazing blog. What are your other dreams/hopes/aspirations for the future?
I want a nice score on my LSAT, to visit India (and a dozen other countries), to live in a city (so I don’t have to drive a car and have lots of shopping options), and to have a secure occupation that makes me happy!

Get the Clothes Horse’s look with her ModCloth faves:

Meet Gala Darling, our lovely Blogger of the Moment. With her pink hair and propensity for wearing fuchsia and black, she truly embodies what it means to have personal style. Whether you’re a blogger wannabe, a small-town girl or an established fashionista, we can all probably learn a thing or two from her. So listen up, and find out what Gala Darling has to say about all things fashion in her interview. Plus, check out her ModCloth picks and her namesake dress!

Tell us a bit about yourself: Where did you grow up and where do you live now?
I grew up in Wellington, New Zealand and now live in New York, NY! Best city in the world, for sure.

How did you get interested in fashion?
My mother owned a boutique when I was very young and so I would sit out in the back after school, reading books, eating ice cream and listening to what went on in the shop. I loved to watch her get dressed up to go out — she has incredible style. I am sure I learned a lot of what I know by osmosis! When she took me shopping as a kid, I always had very definite ideas of what I did and didn’t like, and as I became a teenager, I started to assert that even more. That was really where it all began.

How would you define your personal style?
Oh, who knows! I always find this question so hard to answer because I feel like my style is constantly evolving. At least, I hope it is! I definitely like to anchor my outfits with black (old goth habits die hard!), I really love big shoes and I am big on accessories. I can tell you what my style is NOT: T-shirts and jeans! I wish I could be one of those girls who looked amazing in a white tee and blue jeans, but it’s just not my style! I am so envious of people who can pull that off!

What is your fashion/styling rule? Any tips for getting your effortless look?
Haha, I don’t know if anyone would call my look “effortless!” I don’t have many rules, just silly things like not wearing a big statement necklace and dangly earrings at the same time. But in terms of getting the best outfits, everything comes together better if I can actually SEE all my stuff! So I try to keep my wardrobe organized (it is sorted by type of clothing), and I merchandise all my belts, accessories, etc., like you would in a store. It sounds simple but it really makes a huge difference.

How has your style changed over the years?
It’s changed radically. I guess my first major fashion statement was anything goth — combat boots, striped stockings, corsets, collars, all that guff. It took me a long time to give it all up too, and even now I totally go for anything that looks fetish-y or borderline-goth that I can work into my aesthetic! After my gothic love affair, I went in the total opposite direction: yellow T-shirts, blue silk dresses, shredded stockings and over-sized turquoise cowboy boots, etc… and somehow I got to where I am today: lots of dresses, high heels, belts, sequined Mickey Mouse-ear hats, sparkly eye make-up, false eyelashes & suspender belts.

Favorite style icon?
I’m inspired by a lot of people’s styles (Diana Vreeland, Little Edie, Marchesa Louisa Casati, etc.) but if I actually had to swap wardrobes with somebody, it would be either Mary-Kate Olsen or Carrie Bradshaw.

Favorite movie?
I have extremely awful taste in movies. I think my favorites are Bring It On, Clueless, 10 Things I Hate About You, The Addams Family and Grease. I am not ashamed!

Favorite book?
It’s too hard to say. I am a major book nerd, like all writers, I suppose. Here are some of my favourites: Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov; Dangerous Angels by Francesca Lia Block; Fear of Flying by Erica Jong; The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles by Haruki Murakami; American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis; House Of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski; The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things by J.T. Leroy; Do You! by Russell Simmons; The Red Book by Sera Beak; Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson; Women by Charles Bukowski; Grapefruit by Yoko Ono, and all kinds of business, style, interior design, and sociology books. When I was younger, I was mad keen on Roald Dahl, Poppy Z. Brite, Spike Milligan and Sweet Valley High. Oh my. Bookshops and libraries are some of my favorite places.

What style blogs do you follow?
My Google Reader overflow-eth! Check out my links page.

What inspired you to start your own blog? Do you still have a day job, or do you blog full-time?
I was sick of working for other people doing stuff I didn’t care about. I’ve been blogging full-time since December 2006. I don’t have a day job, but I write for other publications (I’m ChinaShop Magazine’s Fashion Curator) and work on a variety of projects that keep me busy and add to my shoe fund!

Your blog is a lot more than just outfit photos. How do you get ideas about what to feature?
I really just write about whatever is inspiring me at that moment — and I don’t just stick to a few certain topics. Instead, I write for the audience I am imagining. That makes things much more interesting, I think!

Any tips for girls wanting to start their own fashion blogs?
Go for it, and don’t be afraid to be yourself. It can be the beginning of something wonderful, but if you fall in line with everyone else, you will miss out on things that would otherwise come your way!

Here are just a few of Gala Darling’s favorite pieces from ModCloth:

Tell us a bit about yourself: Where did you grow up and where do you live now? How did you get interested in fashion?
I grew up in a small town in southwest Poland, called Jelenia Gora, and after finishing college there, I had an opportunity to continue my studies at an university in Dundee, Scotland, where I’m living at the moment. The main factor that made me come here was a new experience and a chance to live in an English speaking country which I always dreamed of. My interest in fashion started to blossom during my college years, and I think it came to me quite naturally. It was mainly fashion magazines and programs that inspired me at that time, as I hadn’t heard about fashion blogs back then.

How would you define your personal style?
I think it is quite varied. One day it can be very feminine, another it’s very girly and cute. I am a skirt and dress addict, and I hardly wear any trousers! Shift dresses and cute little retro dresses are definitely my staples no matter the season of the year. I love the nautical theme, which is the epitome of a summer outfit for me. Another big part of my style is rock chic, which is probably influenced by the music I listen to…it’s in a way expressing my music taste and I really enjoy heavy accessories and rock girl garments. Also, my big love for everything vintage started a couple of months ago, so there are more and more vintage pieces in my wardrobe.

What is your fashion/styling rule? Any tips for getting your effortless look?
I always wear clothes that I feel and look good in. It may sound simple, but that’s the main factor for me. You’ve got to be yourself and feel great in clothes you wear to look your best in them!

How has your style changed over the years?
I used to dress quite normally, meaning I didn’t stand out from the crowd, but that started to change when I was studying at college and I got interested in fashion more. Still, the real and 100% change in my style happened after one year spent in Scotland, and at this stage of my life I’m sure I’ve found my style that I wouldn’t change for any other.

You always have amazing vintage finds – any retro shopping suggestions you can share with us?
I usually check all my local charity stores or vintage shops for vintage clothing and accessories. You can really find gems in those places although you have to get through lots of uninteresting items, so don’t be put off by that! Also it’s good to check on these stores quite often as you never know when they’ll get something stunning. Another thing is sizes of the items. Sometimes you have to look beyond that. You can always take it in or make some other garment from that material.

What’s your favorite vintage purchase?
My ‘trunk’ style bag I found in a charity shop recently. It’s got a little handle as well as a strap, and it’s totally perfect when it comes to shape and colors.

Favorite style icon?
I love Alexa Chung, Fearne Cotton and Kate Moss’ style. They’ve been my style icons for a long time now, but I’m also inspired by the people I see on the streets and blogs.

Favorite movie?
I don’t think I’d be able to choose one movie that I love the most, if I had to limit that number to six they’d be: Lolita, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Amelie, Control, Motorcycle Diaries and Lost in Translation. I can watch them over and over again.

Favorite book?

They would have to be Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov and Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.

What style blogs do you follow?
I adore Zaira’s CoComode – she’s got a fabulous style that’s got an amazing vintage feel to it, Bonnie’s Flashes of Style – again she’s got a stunning sense of style, and Ranna’s Only Shallow. They’re such an inspiration to me!

What inspired you to start your own blog? Do you still have a day job, or do you blog full-time?
I’ve been watching other people’s style blogs for some time, and I have been very inspired by them. Apart from that, I really felt the urge to share my style with people and wanted to express myself artistically, so it just came to me naturally. Last but not least, I wanted to participate in the blogger world more and exchange with other bloggers culturally.
I still have a day job, although my dream would be to blog full time somehow. We’ll see what the future brings…

Any tips for girls wanting to start their own fashion blogs?
Don’t be afraid to express your style and experiment with fashion in any way you want.
Make sure the pictures are clear and of good quality.
And be sure to comment on other people’s blogs. That’s how they’ll probably learn about your blog if you’re just starting.

Here’s What Natalia has to say about some of her favorite ModCloth pieces:

Take one part vintage, and one part modern, and what do you get? Keiko Lynn, our Blogger of the Moment! She effortlessly transforms vintage pieces into new creations that have the same romantic feel as their predecessors, but fit the lifestyle and mindset of a girl on the go. Plus, she designs clothing and accessories that we simply love.

Read on to hear Keiko Lynn dish on her style inspirations, favorite finds, and just how a girl goes about starting a blog. You also won’t want to miss her favorite ModCloth picks, including the Keiko Lynn Dress, named just for her.

You’re great at combining vintage and modern pieces into one seamless outfit – any tips for getting your effortless look?
I mix different eras, in order to avoid looking too dated. Bold colors paired with vintage silhouettes keep it looking a little more modern, and I love color! I also like to make minor alterations to certain vintage pieces. Purists would hang me for it, but I think it’s better to be able to wear a piece of clothing, rather than let it sit in the closet. Sometimes, just bringing up a hemline or taking in the sleeves is enough to bring it to the next level.

You always have amazing vintage finds – any retro shopping tips you can share with us?
Patience is essential. Unless you have an unlimited budget (I do not), thrifting, estate sales, yard sales and flea markets are the best options. You need to rummage, hunt and dig, because you won’t find much if you’re just scanning the racks. I go through hundreds of castaways, before I find something worth purchasing. As far as purchases go, if you wouldn’t look twice at it if it was full price, you might want to reconsider buying it at all.

What’s your favorite vintage purchase?
For things I actually wear, my fifties cotton day dresses. They are so comfortable and flattering to my figure. For the collection, a wool swimsuit from the 1930s, in perfect condition. I can’t wear it, but I also wouldn’t dream of getting rid of it.

Biggest fashion inspiration?
Iris Apfel, for her unabashed, eccentric sense of style. I’m also head over heels for Chuck’s wardrobe in the now-defunct show, Pushing Daisies. The wardrobe stylist pulls from all different eras; that’s a person after my own heart!

Favorite movie?
Harold and Maude; I quote it more often than I probably should.

Favorite book?
I’m rather predictable in my tastes, as I love the classics. I particularly love anything by Kurt Vonnegut. Did you notice a trend? I admire offbeat characters.

What style blogs do you follow?
I don’t have a ton of time to keep up with all of the blogs I try to follow, so I usually check concentrated sources of bloggers’ styles via Weardrobe and Wardrobe Remix (on Flickr). The individual blogs I tend to check most often are LeBlogdeBetty, Liebemarlene and Painfully Hip.

What inspired you to start your own blog?
I’ve been blogging since the days of Open Diary. Back then, it was all about the depths of my angsty teen heart. Once I moved away for college, I switched to LiveJournal. Shortly after I started college, I started making and selling clothing on my site, Postlapsaria. I starting using my LiveJournal to promote my clothing, but wanted to keep it personal, as well. The more people showed an interest in taking a peek into my daily life, the more I started to document it. Late last year, I made the transition to Blogspot, where I could have a fresh start.

Any tips for girls wanting to start their own fashion blogs?

It’s important for your photographs to be good quality; it’s the first thing people will look at when visiting your blog. You don’t need a professional camera, but natural light always looks better than flash or artificial light.

Network with other fashion bloggers. Comment on their blogs, add them to your links, and request that they do the same. Sites like Weardrobe, Modepass and Lucky Style Spotter are great for networking, since they are full of girls who love fashion. You can also utilize your facebook, twitter, flickr, etc. to promote your blog and gain readership.

Update regularly. Readers will lose interest if you have lack new content.

Be yourself. Individuality is charming and refreshing. If you let yourself shine through in your photographs and writing, readers will be more likely to feel a personal connection. The connection is what keeps people coming back!

If you’re anything like me, you’re hooked on What I Wore. Almost every day I visit Jessica Schroeder’s blog to see the cute outfit she’s picked out for the day, and I’m inspired by the way she combines vintage, new, thrifted, and DIY items in each ensemble. She’s the kind of person who can figure out a way to style anything and make it look fabulous.

Want to get her look? Find out the secrets to her style? Learn her tips to starting your own blog? Read on!

We asked Jessica some questions, and this is what she had to say:

You’re great at combining vintage and modern pieces into one seamless outfit. Do you have any tips for getting your effortless look?

So much of modern fashion is based on vintage and retro looks. I know what silhouettes I like and look good on me, so I tend to focus on those (skirts, high waists, ruffles, high heels). Accessories are a great way to either make something look more current or more vintage inspired as well.

What style blogs do you follow?

I’m a user at weardrobe.com, and they have daily style posts from girls allover the world (which is another great way to find new bloggers). I’ve been following Liebemarlene Vintage and Sally Jane Vintage for over a year. Some other favorites are Kansas Couture, Style Pill, and Casey’s Musings (great vintage style!). I also like The Sartorialist, Altamira and Stylesightings.

Biggest fashion inspiration?

I have three eras I’m really into with corresponding inspirations. First is the 1950s housewife and good girl. Think tiny waists, big skirts, the New Look, pearls, lipstick, heels, and gloves. I love the ladylike feel of it all. Next is the mod girl of the 60s. I had a big Edie Sedgwick phase and cut off all my hair and drew on beauty marks and wore lots of tights with short skirts. Finally is the Diane Keaton/Annie Hall inspiration, which also reminds me a lot of my mom in the late 70s. High-waisted, wide-leg jeans with tucked in blouses – I love it!

Favorite movies?

Roman Holiday, Annie Hall, Marie Antoinette

What inspired you to start your own blog?

Other fashion bloggers and daily outfit picture takers. Seeing how many other great bloggers out there were doing this – and doing it well – made me want to take a go at it. Now it’s my full-time gig!

How often do you shop? And with whom do you shop?

Its really irregular – sometimes I will shop ’til I drop, and other times there will be a 3-4 week hiatus. I prefer to go shopping alone but will sometimes go with my mom (when I’m home visiting) and occasionally a friend.

You always have amazing vintage finds. Do you have any retro shopping tips you can share with us?

I suppose you could say it’s a lot about luck. I know the stores that work for me, and I know what I like color-wise and in terms of shape. You’ve really got to be willing to dig if you don’t want to pay a premium. I usually go through every hanger on the racks I love (dresses and blouses get a lot of attention from me). You also have to know when to pass on items that are just so-so. I’d rather go home empty-handed than leave with something just because it’s good quality vintage. It has to be right for me. My shopping rule is “would I wear it today?” If I can say “yes,” I’ll take it home with me.

How much time do you spend on this blog?

Roughly 20-25 hours a week or more.

Any tips for girls wanting to start their own fashion blogs?

Stay true to what you like. I’ve seen a lot of cookie cutter blogs, and those don’t stick out. The girls with their own sense of style, great quality photos, and a clean layout are the ones I like most. You don’t have to be ultra trendy either. Just yourself. I also prefer the blogs with authors that write as they would speak. I hate it when bloggers try to sound like magazines!

What’s your most recent purchase?

Vintage wood and leather clogs from the 70s.

What is your fashion/styling rule?

Be chic. Wear sunglasses and heels when possible. It’s not how much something costs, it’s how you wear it.

Get Jessica’s look with her ModCloth favorites:

Here’s what Jessica says about the pretty pieces pictured above:

- Wall-e-t: So many times I dash out my apartment to run to the corner store on an errand. I love the glitz of this practical wallet.

- The Crawford Headband: This headband is just too fancy. In a good way. I’d wear it with a cocktail dress and skip the jewels.

- Fire Spirit Top: I love the idea of throwing this printed heather top on with black skinny jeans, sunglasses and a hat for an easy Sunday morning brunch in Brooklyn.

- Friendship Wedges: I’ve just discovered how double duty wedges are in providing height and comfort at the same time. I love the beautiful pine tree shade of this suede pair.

- Greenhouse Skirt in Lilac : A little liberty print goes a long way. I immediately imagine wearing this with white sneakers, tank, and denim vest!

- The Goldie Trench: The best back to school trench a girl could dream of – even a girl that’s been away from the textbooks for years.

See all of Jessica’s picks here, plus the dress named just for her!

Learn how she developed her blog into a Frassy sensation? Keep reading!

Tell us about your personal style:

I love London style: the quirkiness, the edgy, outrageous aspects of their dressing style. Vivienne Westwood is one of my fashion idols, purely for the bizarre stuff she often wears. I also emulate Sienna Miller and Nicole Ritchie quite frequently. I believe fashion is all about self-expression, so I guess what I wear speaks for me. I would define my style as a crossroads between bohemian, vintage and eccentric.

What are some of your favorite blogs?

Oh god, I am blog-OBSESSED. Favorites include: Isa at Bohemian Musings, Karla at Karla’s Closet, Gala at Amlul, Susie at Stylebubble, The Stylish Wanderer, and finally, Frances at Happy-Because.

We love how you combine modern and vintage seamlessly in one outfit – any tips for getting your effortless look?

I think its important to not get too carried away with one brand or one look. Instead, match garments you would never anticipate working together and definitely always mix the new with the old. Also, charity-shops and thrift stores are brimming with great retro stuff: blazers and dresses are abundant – and long skirts can be snipped into shorter styles.

Favorite book?

I am literature-obsessed, and while I have dozens of loved books, I would say one that resonated very deeply with me is: Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys. The narrative form and dream-like description seems to soak right down to the soul. Its beautiful. Read it.

What inspired you to start your own blog?

The urge to express myself publicly but also all the other fashion blogger pros who have created sartorial empires out of their own thoughts and fashion ideas.

How much time do you spend on this blog?

I spend about an hour a day on my blog, reading everyone’s comments, posting my photos and ramblings. It is rather time-consuming, but I absolutely loveeee it!

Any tips for girls wanting to start their own fashion blogs?

Make sure you have a camera first. Most blog readers want to know about your own individual personal style, not exclusively that of celebrities – and always be original. These days there are sooo many fashion blogs, its crucial to stand out.

What was your most recent purchase?

I bought a used dusty pink blazer from a charity shop the other day for 2.00 pounds. I simply adore it!

What is your fashion/styling rule?

Stay true to yourself, and dress the way you want to dress regardless of what others say or think. And finally, be creative!

Get Audrey’s look with her ModCloth Favorites:

You’re great at combining vintage and modern pieces into one seamless outfit – any tips on getting your effortless look?

Aw thank you! I guess my favorite thing to do is pair vintage dresses with more modern shoes – it just makes the outfit look a bit fresher, and I feel like I can pull off newer shoes better than, say, a super-modern dress or pair of pants or something that looks wonderful on other people but silly on me.

Tell us about your personal style:

I mostly wear vintage – sort of girly, romantic things, because they look best with my old fashioned pale skin and crazy hair, and also because I’m always watching old movies and getting inspired by them.

What style blogs do you follow?

Some recent favorites: Linnea’s Vintage Blog, Growin’ Up, Clever Nettle, and Casey’s Musings

Biggest fashion inspiration?

I suppose when it comes right down to it I’m most inspired by movies from the 1930s. I’m not crazy about ’30s dress lengths or some of the proportions, but there’s still so much to be inspired by in the ’30s films, whether it’s something frilly worn by a leading lady, a simple house dress in a pre-code film, or a Busby Berkeley chorus girl’s costume.

Favorite book?

It’s too hard! Lately I’ve been into books from the ’30s by Nancy Mitford and Evelyn Waugh, and at the moment I’m reading Faulkner’s “Absalom, Absalom!” and I’m loving its dark Southern nostalgia!

What inspired you to start your own blog?

I started it a little after I started selling vintage on Ebay, just as a place for store updates and things, but I got hooked on blogging!

You always have amazing finds from estate and yard sales – any retro shopping tips you can share with us?

Just check your local newspaper classifieds and Craigslist constantly for sales. The best garage sales are the ones run by little white-haired old ladies, and the best estate sales are the ones that are the hardest to find!

How much time do you spend on your blog?

Maybe around 2 hours a day, sometimes longer when I don’t know what to write about. It can take forever to get inspiration and put some photos together, but that’s probably because I’m a procrastinator. I’d say I’m usually writing blog posts from around 1 to 3 in the morning!

Any tips for girls wanting to start their own fashion blogs?

Join Wardrobe Remix or Chictopia or Modepass or any fashion communities that strike your fancy. Comment on other blogs a lot to get your name out there. And as far as blogging goes I think that the more personal blogs are the best – anyone can write a post about the latest Marc Jacobs collection, but only you can write a post on your own personal style and fashion outlook.

What was your most recent purchase?

A little black velvet bow hair comb from an estate sale!

What is your fashion/styling rule?

I guess to get away with wearing vintage without looking costume-y. Mixing decades, adding in more modern touches, playing with proportion to make vintage look a bit more interesting. I definitely don’t always achieve it though!
