From Lanvin’s feather ties for men, to the unique combination of mesh and feathers from Canadian-based designer, Renata Morales, we suggest taking your fashion on a flight of fancy by taking part in the season’s influx of avian apparel!
Anyone can incorporate a little feminine fluff into their wardrobe, and if you’re looking for advice on how to style this trend, I advise you to look no further than your own comfort zone. Take a look at Fashionstyleadvice.com who posts about this trend, and boasts about our very own feathered headwear! For those who are more reserved when it comes to trendy choices, our Tran-quill-ity Hoops are a great way to wear your feathers in an interesting, yet subtle way.

We sent the basic Weardrobe Dress to all the amazing bloggers who attended the Weardrobe Conference. They all styled the dress in their own unique way – from dressing it down to dressing it up, to cutting off the hem to tying another dress around their waist – each look was unique and fabulous in its own right.
Krytsal of This Time Tomorrow even wrote up a little piece about this wardrobe essential. Check out her Weardrobe article here.
Read on to see how the rest of the girls reworked the little black Weardrobe Dress.

Here at ModCloth, we were so excited when Winona Dimeo-Ediger, of the blog Daddy Likey, said yes to picking out ModCloth outfits using advice from her new book, Closet Confidential. In this post you’ll hear her recommendations for the perfect outfits for three occasions: a dinner party, a job interview, and a date. Here’s what she has to say:
Your “Hosting a Dinner Party to Celebrate Your Friend Getting Out of a Codependent Relationship” Outfit
The essentials:
• Soda Fountain Dress in Grape
• Mini Dots Tights in Delphinium
• Pop Peep Toes (you’ll take them off after ten minutes)
• Finishing School Headband in Sparkling Ivory
Not recommended:
• Sweatpants. Please.
Also works for:
• Dinner parties celebrating any occasion
• Baking cookies alone while listening to Sinatra
• Tea with your grandma
• At-home dates
Bonus Tip: If you want to ensure your guests dress up too, I’ve found adding “or else” to the dress code to be quite helpful.

(Dress Side Story, Shifting Perspectives Dress, Tierway to Heaven Dress, The Cindy Dress)
Dresses are always in, but are you always in the dress that is most flattering to your shape? One-shoulders and maxis are especially trendy right now, although they might not be for everyone. With a few tips and our extensive selection of girly frocks, you will be ready to attend this season’s events (and upcoming holiday parties) in perfect shape!
One Shoulder: For those with wide shoulders, try a one-shoulder, the asymmetrical neckline will create a body balancing effect as opposed to baring it all! Try our Brick House Dress and Tierway to Heaven Dress
Sheath: If you’re still on your journey to a svelte six pack, these dresses will skim along your shape without pulling or tugging in any areas. Or if you like versatility in your clothing, wear this one with a belt for a completely different look! Bow-t Neck Dress, Post-Punk Dress, Venetian Dress are all great pics!
Shift: For petite types or those with curves ahead! The best match (I think) to a shift dress is confidence no matter what your body type. Try the Backdrop Feature Dress, Miss Scarlet Dress, and Tulip Show Dress.
A-Line: For bottom heavy, or pear shaped ladies, try an A-line to draw the attention away from a hip-hugging silhouette. Check out the Az-Tech Dress, Amusement Park Dress, Frock of Love Dress in Daisy, and Rihanna Dress.
Maxi: I was apprehensive to try this one, but when I did, I realized it was equivalent to walking around all day in my most comfortable pair of pajamas! Depending on your height, a maxi can be tricky, but chances are if you give one an inch, you will get miles of wear out of it! Try rocking the Rose Water Maxi Dress, Wolf Form Maxi Dress, and Persian Princess Dress.
For your body type, what silhouette have you found works best?

Congratulations again to Elisa Llera, who won our fundraiser fashion show contest! You chose her style, The Parisian Scholar, to be featured at a the 1950’s Finest Fashion Salon. Proceeds from the show supported the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, but you can help, too! Shop ModCloth today, July 24th, using coupon code Cure10, and 10% of your purchase will be donated to the cause!
A group of us ModCloth-ers headed to the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts for the Fashion Salon last Saturday, and we had a blast. The models looked great, and we were all so proud – this was our first exclusively ModCloth fashion show, where all the items featured on the catwalk were from us! The canopied patio setting was elegant and lovely, and the breeze through the tent made it sound like we were right beside the ocean. Between each of the runway themes (back to school, work, date night, etc.), there were poetry readings and memorable passages read aloud that related to the upcoming outfits. To top it off, there was a champagne toast, fancy pastries, and lots of mingling afterwards! It was the perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon and an even better way to help a worthy charity! Our thanks go to Gretchen Harnick for organizing the show.
Don’t forget to shop ModCloth today, and we’ll donate 10% of your purchase to fight cystic fibrosis!

Back in January, Vasil predicted the style trends that would rule 2009. Have you been seeing a shift in style towards looks defined by earthy colors, ruffles, silhouette-defining belts, and mixed patterns in the last couple of months? We certainly have! Here are our favorite trend-based looks for this summer!

- Mixing solid colors with light prints adds interest and fun to your outfits, like in Berry Cobbler. This accessorized two-pieced ensemble makes you appear perky and fun.
- In terms of color, Vasil predicted a domination of earthy and muted tones, primarily light beiges, pinks, and nudes: along with bold color accents. The light pink of Tier-amisu makes the outfit appear fresh and feminine, but the oversized bag is perfect for the girl with a lot on her plate and a lot to carry with her!

Summer may be the time when casual style reigns supreme, but fear not, fashionistas! There are still plenty of opportunities to dress up too! In this segment, we’ll be showing you some excellent looks to suit your fanciest occasions this summer. Here’s the fun part: you get to choose your favorite! It’s just like real life when you’re standing dumbstruck in front of your closet with five minutes before you have to be out the door, albeit slightly less panicked. Let us know which outfit you would wear for each occasion in the comments below! Have fun!

Wedding Style Tip: Remember to consider the tone and location of the wedding when you’re choosing an outfit. For a country club or evening reception, something like Tux Goes Lux Dress paired with an evening bag is a good pick, but for a daytime affair, the more casual, but still stunning Reflection Pool Dress, paired with vibrant wedges is a better choice. Which look do you like best?
