(Fun in the Sun)

Artist: Sarah D.

Inspiration: The main reason for my art is trying to capture moments in my life that I never want to forget. I have a portfolio site, Dottidee that has my drawings and photographs, and I recently started a new blog, The Antique Pearl, about my obssesion with retail therapy.

What do you think of her snapshot? Its unique sepia look makes me think I should invest in a Lomography, Holga, or Golden Half camera!

“Color Me Multi” by Kate Sumpter aka ravencolours at http://ravencolours.etsy.com

“Henry David Thoreau described this photograph, perfectly. ‘The true harvest of my life is intangible – a little star dust caught, a portion of the rainbow I have clutched.’

I have been doing photography since my junior year of high school. I love giving my photos a vintage feel as a throwback to the glory of film and darkrooms. I love capturing the everyday and making it my own as art.”

It might not be a strawberry field, but artist, Rachel D. submitted to us a crafted painting of the Beatles incorporating a mix of melted together hues, in a field of saturated colors!

What do you think of her pop portrait? Kind of reminds me of our own Admiral-ably Attired Jacket!

Two weeks ago we featured a short poem to kickstart our Mixed Media blog. For our second installment of Mixed Media, I scoured through grassroots artist works until I found something that caught my eye. I’m in love with the perspective, colors, shoes, everything about this snapshot! The photo above was taken in Chicago by Laura Dolce of NYC who describes herself as seeing “everything as a photograph”.

Just looking at these cute hi-tops makes me want a new pair of my own!

Bonjour! And welcome to our newest blog category that will feature works created by people to inspire more than just style, but a creative lifestyle! Ranging anywhere from lyrics, to poetry, drawings, illustrations, crafts, photography, you name it and it most likely will be featured on the ModLife Mixed Media blog in the future. We would like to highlight grassroots works and talk about them! Creativity crosses over just about every medium imaginable…

Our first media submission is from Rachel, who wrote this poem to a friend which was later submitted to Sandwichzine. I love this poem, because although it is short, it delivers an impactful message that makes you read it over again and again.

What are your thoughts of Mixed Media and Rachel’s poem?
