Welcome to a new blog category; this section will be housing all future decor posts! As this category is developed and grows, I would like to basically cover anything and everything Vintage/Mod-Decor related. It may be a vintage decor photo that inspires us, a retro artist/painting, a vintage styled room, vintage pieces of furniture, or vintage decor DIY; the possibilities are endless! As I said before, I am always torn when thrifting as to what strikes me more: vintage clothing or vintage decor…

Personally, I think the appeal of decorating with vintage decor is that:

You can usually do it inexpensively (unless it is a pricey antique)

It is something you won’t see it in every other apartment

It inspires creativity! Finding something old and ragged-looking sometimes is cool in itself, but an occasional revamp can create truly interesting pieces!

As I develop this category I would like to know if there is anything vintage-decor-related that you would like to see. Let the inspiration begin!

Read on to find out the story behind this mod-ified vintage side table!

The piece that you see above is the result of an evening where I had some extra time and enough supplies to carry out a vision! The table itself (free!) from an estate’s basement is small, but a good size to hold a floral vase. Unfortunately, I don’t have a ‘before’ photo, but I think it’s easy to imagine…

I used rubber cement to glue a cover from a vintage New York Magazine that I had saved to the bottom shelf. I also had a broken mirror and window (saved from previous apartment) which I used to create the mosaic pieces with a Mosaic Tile Nipper. With a lot of patience, some glass, and Tile Grout, I turned this plain old vintage side table into a unique one-of-a-kind piece!

This table has turned out to be a true statement of recycling: a good idea for magazine clippings that you may have no use for, some mosaic supplies, and a piece of vintage decor!

Lastly: I must warn that if you are going to work with broken glass and mosaic supplies, be careful! Wear eye protection and either take a class, or do extensive research to make sure you are taking the correct precautions when working with glass. There also might be a leaded glass supply store within your area that would be happy to help with questions!
