@MrStreetPeeper — At the IFB conference,  Phil Oh of Street Peeper talked about how the media used to shrug at style photographers, whereas now that mentality has taken a complete turn! Follow him to see his tweet style:

@garancedore — Follow her twitter, and you’ll easily be following, as Interview magazine stated, “one of the fashion world’s most closely followed bloggers.”  This fashion illustrator turned blogger gives you the best of all worlds, with a French twist. Garance’s tweet style:

Every year, when it seems like the season of spring conveniently forgot about poor little Pittsburgh, I battle my cold weather blues with a ticket to a local screening of The Oscar Nominated Short Films. I’m lucky to live in a city which screens both the nominated live action and animated shorts. With the purchase of just one ticket, I can sit back and enjoy 10 varied short films, which never cease to amaze me with their engaging stories, or entertaining animation.

Even though this year’s Academy Awards have passed, Shorts International is still screening The Oscar Nominated Shorts in a few select cities. Check out their locations listing here, or download the nominated films on iTunes.

When I happened upon this clip, I had only one word for it: magical. People may indignantly ask, “Didn’t you play with those ponies as a child? Doesn’t this sully your pristine memories of them?” Sure, I had a collection of My Little Ponies, and I cherished them, brushed their manes, and allowed them to gallop about the expanse of my bedroom floor. They’ll always hold a special place in my childhood. But that does not make the video above any less amazing.

There’s just one thing — is this a real show? Personally, the prop-kicking gave the impression that it was just a few folks having fun on a set, but anything’s possible! Do you gals ‘n’ guys know? I mean, I’m just curious, ’cause it’s not like I’d actually go buy tickets to a My Little Pony musical or anything… JK. I totes would.

Have you ever seen a flier for your fave indie act and thought, “That is too awesome to throw away”? Then you’re already familiar with the artistic allure of gig posters!

The 60’s spawned some of the first fantastic fliers, but today there are a plethora of places that you can suss out posters of beloved bands, from A Tribe Called Quest to Rachael Yamagata, as well as superior sites which feature vast collections, such as GigPosters.com, and individual artists’ sites, like Todd Slater’s. You could even ask around your city to find local haute handbill-creating talent, such as my favorite Pittsburgh poster gal — StrawberryLuna!

One thing’s for sure — if you’re a lover of music and appreciator of art, you will be captivated by gig posters. Do you have a favorite gig poster artist or fantastic flier that you’d like to share? Tell us about it!

Another January has come and gone, and another Fun-A-Day project is completed! Here in Pittsburgh, Fun-A-Day is in its third season, a success with 20+ contributors! At the end of last year, I wrote a blog post to spread the word and hopefully garner some last-minute buzz for all participating cities (and prospective cities) about this project. The idea is to work on a fun and creative project each day in the month of January, and show off your results in February!

I encourage you to take a gander inside the screen printing studio AIR that hosted the 2010 Fun-A-Day finale in Pittsburgh.

What are those, sweaters for ants? Not quite, but together they are one the coolest mini art projects I’ve come across in a while!

Didn’t realize there was no Women’s Ski Jump event in the Winter Olympics? Despite the fact that the current World Champion for the sport and record holder for highest ski jump is 25 year old American woman Lindsey Van, ski jump in the Olympics has been deemed “not to be appropriate for ladies from a medical point of view,” according to International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge.

The MSNBC.com video above outlines this controversy and introduces viewers to a few leading women ski jumpers who have been left out of the Olympics for vague and senseless reasons.

Forget the Guggenheim, MoMA, and all those other museums of contemporary art. If you make only one museum visit this week, make it to the Museum of Modern Celebrity Tweets. Run by illustrator Odessa Begay, this Tumblr-based museum features interpretations of various celebrity tweets, with hilarious results. Now, where can we buy museum memberships?

Ah, modern design. It’s clean, colorful, light, airy, and uh, have you noticed? Empty. Unhappy Hipsters makes light of the people who occupy these über sleek, über chic landscapes, taking beautiful photos from popular design mags and giving them humorous captions. It reads like “The Farside” with a cast of the cooler-than-thou. If you have an appreciation for all things modern, and a good sense of humor, you’ll love these daily doses of droll.

We know you’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but these dust jackets by graphics designer and illustrator Igor Udushlivy are too good to pass up. Instead of keeping bookmarks and covers in their separate spaces, Udushlivy decided to use them together to playfully and creatively “expand the book’s space.”

Our verdict? Love it!

We’ve been talking about feminism a lot lately. Many people don’t learn much about feminism or the women’s movement until college – however, one of today’s youngest and most prominent fashion bloggers has decided to dip her toe into the feminist pool!

After the jump, find out what style blogger Tavi has to say about feminism…

Most of you already know Tavi and her blog Style Rookie. She’s not only a style prodigy and icon in her own right  — and it’s not often that someone comes along who manages to be both at once — but, she’s also an articulate, intelligent, funny gal.

Aside from her fashion endeavors (check her out in our Weardrobe dress!), Tavi recently took up a new subject — feminism. In her post, she very briefly recaps Marisa Meltzer’s Girl Power, choosing instead to focus on the profound impact that reading about what she calls the “(r)evolution” has had on her. Quite frankly, these few lines brought a tear to my eye:

“Never before had I felt that feminism was something I could be so much a part of … The history of it, and the fact that it even existed, makes me very excited, and proud, to be a girl, and to be who I am … I really do think it’s something everyone — whether or not you identify yourself as a feminist, whether you’re a boy or girl — should read. It’s something I’ll remember maybe the way Marisa remembers her first issue of Sassy. The day after I finished, I proposed the idea of a feminists’ club to our grade principal, and after writing up a formal proposal I hope it gets going.”

After reading Tavi’s post, my heart was bursting with pride. The feeling of unity that comes from not just sharing a gender, but also appreciating the struggles women have faced and the progress that’s been made, while acknowledging that there’s more to conquer is incomparable. Seeing a new generation not only embracing, but also being inspired by that is thrilling.
