Positively Pampered: An At-Home Spa Day DIY

Valentine’s Day is for pampering! And what better way to pamper yourself than showing your face, hair, and skin, some love? Whether you’re spending the night in or sharing the day with your gal pals, I’ve created a series of at-home spa DIYs sure to have you feeling fresh-faced and rejuvenated. With an appreciation for nature’s beauty and a little spontaneity, I’ve used all-natural ingredients you’d likely find right in your kitchen. And the best part? Each recipe only requires three ingredients; you simply blend them together and apply!

Avocado & Coconut Hair Mask


1 chopped avocado
1/2 cup coconut milk
1 egg yolk

Mango & Honey Face Mask


1/2 chopped mango
1/4 cup rolled oats
1 tbsp honey

Lemon & Ginger Body Scrub


1 cup epson salt
1/2 lemon’s juice
1/4 cup chopped ginger

    Oh gosh, make sure you don’t have a skin allergy to mango sap before trying the mask. It is a very common condition that can be hard to predict because it often only happens when you handle the rinds. I ate mango salsa for years without problems and then my face exploded from handling a fresh one. I was a puffy mess for over a week because I cut the mango rinds and then touched my face.

    Oh gosh, make sure that you don’t have a skin allergy to mango before doing the mask. It is extremely common and hard to detect because it often only happens when you handle the rind. I ate mango in salsa and pre-made juices for years with no problems, but the first time that I cut a fresh mango myself, my face exploded. I had a horrible puffy rash for about a week because I touched the rind and then touched my face. It’s urushiol, the same compound as poison ivy, so avoid if you’ve had a bad reaction to it.
