One of the coolest, most out-of-the-box hair trends we’ve seen over the past couple of months has to be “hair tapestry,” which is exactly what it sounds like. You literally use a needle and thread — and sometimes a legit loom — to create your very own tapestry in your hair.

Sound crazy? Well, it’s definitely a little zany, but the results are so cool that you can’t help but want to try it out ASAP.

Photographs of hair tapestry have started popping up on social media feeds and across the blogosphere. Today we’re highlighting some downright hip hair tapestries posted by various Instagram users, and, as a bonus, we’ve (weave?) also included a DIY tutorial from the Dirty Looks blog. The picture tutorial from the blog is located above and the video tutorial is at the bottom of this post.

Wendy Rose Gould is a latte-loving, vintage-collecting, cat-adoring beauty and fashion writer whose work has appeared both online and in print. While she grew up in urban Indiana surrounded by horse buggies and corn fields, she's since moved west to Phoenix (after a stint in South Korea) where cacti and haboobs reign supreme. Wendy believes a woman should never leave the house without enviable hair and a spritz of her staple perfume. And also mascara. Never leave the house without mascara.
