There was a time, not too long ago, when I was convinced the classic red lip was not for me. I would randomly grab any old tube of “red” from the drugstore which would, inevitably, look nothing like the chic shades I saw modeled between the pages of fashion magazines and on my favorite blogs. While I’ve since discovered that orangy-reds and coral shades work well for me, with the holiday season upon us, I turned to Adrienne, one of our go-to on-set makeup artists here in Pittsburgh, to get her take on finding the right, go-with-anything shade of red.
While we here at ModCloth firmly believe in wearing what makes you feel like the best version of yourself — makeup included — there’s no doubt that having a fool-proof shade of red lipstick comes in handy when you’re in a pinch, whether you’re running late in the morning, or transitioning from the office to a cocktail party. To show off Adrienne’s expertly crafted shades, I enlisted the help of three ModEmployees, who are here to show off the ravishing reds that Adrienne created just for them.
For Fashion Writer Christen, Adrienne first brushed a true red shade onto her lips, then layered an eye-catching orange shade on top. The pop of orange compliments the red undertones in Christen’s hair, and adds an unexpected twist to the traditional red.
Adrienne took a unique approach to Photo Retoucher Maggie’s lips, first using an all-purpose, chestnut-hued make-up pencil to line and fill her lips, and then layering a deep red with brick undertones over top. The layered hues create a multi-dimensional color that pops against her bronze skin tone and dark hair.
This is a great article full of tips, especially with red lips becoming as popular as it is!
I disagree. This only says what Adrienne chose for these 3 women. The article doesn’t explain why Adrienne chose the colors she did, or which red undertones are best with different skin tones.
I still don’t know which red is for me or what the heck is chestnut hued…. Although I do like the colors she used. I just wish it were more informative.
this article really didn’t help
