For our second monthly Community feature, we decided to chat with noteworthy Style Gallery babe, Jordyn Pecha. This 24-year-old Washington native runs Pretty Lovely, a fabulous blog sprinkled with impeccably layered looks, enviable wellies, and swoon-inducing blooms.
To learn more about how Jordyn combines her love of nature and fashion, check out our Q&A below. We have to warn you, though: you may want to run away to the unruly fields of the Pacific Northwest after reading it.
ModCloth: If you only had three words, how would you describe your style?
Jordyn Pecha: Feminine, rustic, effortless.
What’s your favorite wardrobe staple?
A floral dress that can easily be dressed up or dressed down.
Imagine you only had 10 mins to get ready, what are your essentials?
Mascara. Always mascara. Also tinted moisturizer and a little blush for color. Throw on a dress, my jean jacket and TOMS and I’m ready for the day.
Has the Style Gallery influenced you in any way?
Definitely! The Style Gallery is FULL of inspiration! I love scrolling through it and seeing how other girls style their clothes. Especially how others mix patterns. I also like to look at the different photography styles and get photo inspiration.
We admire your ability to mix and match, do you have any tips on how to create a cohesive look with layers?
All I can say is that you just don’t know if it will work until you try it. I pick out my base piece, whether it be a dress or a jacket or even a belt and start working around it until I find an outfit that looks good that day. I may put on one I don’t like, but then 2 weeks later, try it again and fall in love with it. Just try everything! Over and over again.
Nature can be a great source of inspiration, how has Washington influenced your fashion sense?
I always like to shoot outside in very natural settings, so I never like to make my style feel forced. Just like overgrown grass or the branches of a tree move, I like movement in my silhouettes. Dresses that easily flow in the wind are my favorite. I love bringing the rustic and natural feel to all of my outfits.
We understand you have a degree in Landscape, Nursery and Greenhouse Management, so what does your dream job entail?
I would love nothing more [than] to create beautiful bouquets and arrangements for brides on their wedding day, with some of the flowers coming from a small cutting garden. It would be so fun to occasionally travel around the state and have pop-up flower shops as well. And of course, blogging every bit of it! So who wants a bouquet?!
We’re in! Any favorite flowers or rules you keep in mind when creating an arrangement?
My favorite flowers are peonies and poppies. They are so delicate but steal the show in any arrangement. Im patiently waiting for mine to bloom in the yard so I can start playing with them in bouquets. Im still learning the art of floral design, so for now, anything goes. Its a trial and error kind of thing.
