Winter can get a little, dare we say, dreary, so why not infuse your day with some color? Today, we’re brightening things up with some brilliant nail art. Not only is this manicure dripping with all the colors of the rainbow, the gold splatter adds texture that takes the whole shebang to the next level.

Here’s what you need:

  • 10 different nail colors — ideally five sets of two colors, each from the same family
  • Gold nail polish
  • Matte top coat
  • Makeup sponges
  • A nail art brush or straw
  • Nail polish remover

Step 1:

Tear a makeup sponge in half. On the torn edge, dab one set of colors right next to each other, so they touch.

Step 2:

Press the sponge onto your nail, and dab away. You’ll need to do several coats of this to get an opaque look. Also, note that this is a little messy. You can apply tape around your cuticles prior to beginning if you want to minimize cleanup.

Step 3:

Apply a matte top coat to your nails.

Step 4:

Dip a nail art brush into gold polish, and flick the brush back and forth to create splatters on your nails. Another option is to cut a plastic straw in half, dip it into the gold polish, and blow the color onto the nails.

Step 5:

Using a nail brush, cotton bud, or cotton ball, clean up the excess polish around your nails.

+ How do you like to brighten up grey days?
