Videos That Make Us Literally LOL and other Media for Monkeying Around

  • As writers at ModCloth, our job is to produce puns and make metaphors on a daily basis.  So when our eyes  come across something so literal, it catches us off guard and makes us literally laugh out loud! Check out a few “literal music videos” that have been re-done with new lyrics to explain exactly what’s happening…literally.
  • If you’re dying to re-visit some  TV advertising from your youth (or further back), go to mustbeTV.net and click on your favorite category to cringe at the corny vintage commercials. It’s amazing anyone ever bought anything!
  • The writing team has recently become fascinated with the painstakingly detailed, retro-futuristic gadgetry of the steampunk subculture. Check out this site to see how one steampunk modified his home computer to look like a machine conjured up by the mind of Jules Verne.
  • This summer marks the 25th anniversary of Prince’s “Purple Rain” album and movie. To pay tribute, Spin Magazine compiled the “Purplish Rain” cover album, featuring nine different bands playing their rendition of a “Purple Rain” song! Visit their site to find out how you can download it for yourself.
  • And lastly–but certainly not least–Pop City (a local e-magazine highlighting arts and culture goings-on in Pittsburgh) included an article in their publication about the “1950’s Finest Fashion Salon” happening tomorrow, July 18, at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. Read on to learn more about ModCloth’s involvement in this fashion show!

Hi Margaine and Blair. If you’re into steampunk, you might find that our new Best Dressed in the West Vest might fit the bill, not to mention a number of Victorian era-inspired, ruffly blouses and dresses. Also, in the coming weeks, look out for a new pair of silvery grey shorts that reminded us of steampunk.
