It’s National Poetry Month, and we’re celebrating with our “All A-Twitter Haiku Contest!” So, take your theoretical quills in hand, and start writing for a chance to win a $100 ModCloth gift certificate!
Before dust kicks up in the wake of your run to write, you’ll need a few details. Beginning April 14 at 12 p.m., you’ll have 48 hours to craft the most creative haiku possible under the title of “Spring Haiku.” Then, follow us on Twitter (if you don’t already), and tweet your haiku at us (@modcloth) using the hashtag #MCHaiku.
The contest ends at 12 p.m. on April 16, and we’ll announce winners here on our ModLife blog and via our Twitter stream on April 23! The winner will receive a $100 ModCloth gift card, and a Rabbits of the Divine Wind Journal for recording all their other prized thoughts. Only one entry per person, please!
“But wait, what’s a haiku?” you might be wondering. Well, a haiku is a three line poem with a specific structure. The first line must have 5 syllables, the second must have 7, and the last also has 5 – easy peasy! With these 17 syllables, haikus not only pack in strong imagery, words powerful enough to spread vibrant sunsets across the landscapes of one’s mind, but also maintain a nature-centric focus, which is exactly why we supplied the title “Spring Haiku” for this contest’s entries. Unlike many poems, haikus do not, gasp, rhyme, so dig into your varied vocab, and come up with some versatile verse!
