The Style Gallery is a great new way for you to view, love, and share outfit photos. It’s meant to showcase all the expressive, creative, and inspirational personalities of our community!
It’s National Poetry Month, and we’re celebrating with our “All A-Twitter Haiku Contest!” So, take your theoretical quills in hand, and start writing for a chance to win a $100 ModCloth gift certificate!
Before dust kicks up in the wake of your run to write, you’ll need a few details. Beginning April 14 at 12 p.m., you’ll have 48 hours to craft the most creative haiku possible under the title of “Spring Haiku.” Then, follow us on Twitter (if you don’t already), and tweet your haiku at us (@modcloth) using the hashtag #MCHaiku.
The contest ends at 12 p.m. on April 16, and we’ll announce winners here on our ModLife blog and via our Twitter stream on April 23! The winner will receive a $100 ModCloth gift card, and a Rabbits of the Divine Wind Journal for recording all their other prized thoughts. Only one entry per person, please!
“But wait, what’s a haiku?” you might be wondering. Well, a haiku is a three line poem with a specific structure. The first line must have 5 syllables, the second must have 7, and the last also has 5 – easy peasy! With these 17 syllables, haikus not only pack in strong imagery, words powerful enough to spread vibrant sunsets across the landscapes of one’s mind, but also maintain a nature-centric focus, which is exactly why we supplied the title “Spring Haiku” for this contest’s entries. Unlike many poems, haikus do not, gasp, rhyme, so dig into your varied vocab, and come up with some versatile verse!
Here’s an example, written by Maggie, ModCloth’s Campaign Manager:
I can’t wait to read all the creative tweets! Happy Poetry Month! 🙂
But my account is private! How can you see my tweet? 🙁
can we do more than one entry – like more than one haiku?
Oh never mind I see that it says only one entry per person – sorry, just got so excited.
@Mercii — Shoot us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org, and we’ll figure out a solution!
ohh… like Tori I got carried away… I send a first one, but then I had another in my mind and wanted to send it: I can’t ’cause I can only have one entry… 🙁
I’ll need some time to come up with a good one! Looking forward to reading all the entries.
Wait, even if your account is private, it should show up for Modcloth b/c of the @modcloth tag. Am I right?
If it wasn’t for these allergies, I’d be more excited about this fun little contest. 😉
I think if you’re following ModCloth they will be able to read all your tweets. And since you have to be following ModCloth to win this contest, bada boom, problem solved.
I made my email account private on Twitter, but would you need it to contact me?
O H !!! i am so excited!!!

@Eibhlin @Barky —
When you sign into Twitter, type your haiku along with “@modcloth #MCHaiku” into the “What’s Happening?” box at the center top of your homepage! Voila!
i’ve having the same problem as cate and mercii. i emailed but haven’t gotten a reply. i really want to enter, what should i do?
Ok, I “Twitted” mine. . . I think. . . . I don’t know how.
my twitter is private, but I un-privatized it for the last ModCloth twitter contest, then re-privatized it when the winners were announced (sadly, I didn’t win). I plan on doing the same if I can come up with a good haiku :P. for those of you wondering about your private accounts, I suggest doing what I do. you don’t lose privacy for very long, and you can still win!
I signed up for twitter just to enter my haiku. also find twitter confusing. i followed the instructions to type my entry into the whats happening box along with @modcloth and #MCHaiku. Did you get it? I wonder.
I thought the haiku contest ended at 12am! I worked so hard on my haiku to get it perfect 🙁 Here it is incase you want to let my enter even though its late… @modcloth Dazzling smile, so new/
Infectious laughter, just like/
Spring rain, sudden bliss #MCHaiku.
