Are You Champion of the Wardrobe World?

Look out, Team USA – because we’ve caught Olympic fever! To celebrate, we’re bringing you our own style-inspired sporting event with! Don’t know about Kaboodle? It’s a community where trendsetters can create collages called ‘styleboards’ with all of their favorite things.

So, ModAthlete, are you up to the challenge? If so, you could win a gift certificate worth up to $150!

Your challenge,  if you choose to accept it:

  • Create and publish a styleboard on, inspired by any country of your choice – any at all! (Don’t know how? Here’s a tutorial!)
  • Use only ModCloth products in your styleboard.
  • Copy and paste a link to your styleboard in the comments section of this blog post by February 28, 2010 at 12 A.M.
  • Enter as many times as you like!
  • Styleboards will be judged on their creativity, overall style, and reflection of the ModCloth spirit.

Here is a styleboard example created on Kaboodle by our ModStylists, who drew their inspiration from Germany!

We will announce the winners on Monday, March 8 and award our own ModCloth gold, silver, and bronze medals. Our first place finisher will receive a $150 gift certificate, second place will receive a $100 gift certificate, and third place will get a $50 gift certificate!

We know you have exceptional talent, ModAthlete. Now, show us what you’ve got!

For full contest rules, check out our Contest and Comments Guidelines!

What a fun challenge! Is it okay to use vintage items, even if they’ve been sold?

  5. Rachel K. 02/12/2010 at 2:08 pm #

I wanted to make a French-inspired look based on Julie Dreyfus’ character Francesca Mondino in the film Inglorious Basterds. Even though her outfits often tread the line of outlandish, she really rocks the animal print in a way that is sexy, sassy, and stylish. (See: and )

I used the Safari Planet Dress as my base to create a vintage look with all of Dreyfus’ glamor and flair, but toned down to a more modern chic.

Something is wrong with my old Kaboodle account (from which I posted my Parisienne Poet Styleboard) and I can’t get ahold of tech support, so I created a new one. Just to clarify, both wakeupmaggie and wake_up_maggie are me, Megan 🙂

QUESTION: There are clothes listed on Kaboodle that are no longer at ModCloth, and vice versa. Are the only style boards eligible to win those that include current, in-stock items?

Spanish women, in my mind, are refined, fiery and elegant. I added in the charm book because this outfit was inspired by a Spanish princess, and what princess doesn’t go to charm school?

I wanted to put together an outfit that was representative of Japanese street fashion. Japanese streetwear is very bold, vibrant, and reflective of their pop culture, so I thought choosing a dress with a lot of flash and accenting it with some vibrant tights and funky booties would create this effect nicely. The
Pseudorantemum Incendia Earrings and Arcade Parade Necklace serve as an obvious tribute to the way digital media (anime, video games, etc) has so thoroughly permeated every aspect of Japanese pop culture and fashion. Finally, the Cat Above Your Hat Umbrella seemed to perfectly fit the Japanese concept of “kawaii”, an obsession with the super-cute that shows itself in their clothing, media, and even in their modern art (Takashi Murakami, anyone?)

I was going for a look that took the traditional, bland British vibe (think rainy days and bowlers) and fused it with England’s punk-y, counter culture streak. The Michelle Dress and En-Trenched With Style Coat give the outfit a formal, classic base, while the Take a Bow Gloves, Eighth Wonder of the World Booties, and Pyramids and Spheres and Rhinestones, Oh My! Bag complete the outfit for a look that’s part Kensington High Street, part Camden Town.

I’m proud to be an American! I decided to do a day to night ensemble. With Spring around the corner (and Spring Break!) I chose the retro sailor swimsuit (can we say cute!!!) with your favorite sandals or the flats I picked out and the sassy sunglasses.. For night, sticking with the US of A theme the Stayton dress with the super sexy electra heels. A little bling of jewlery and you are good to go! God Bless America…and ModCloth!
