Have a Handmade Holiday Contest!

There are many ways to give the gift of DIY, from food to crafts, from music to something sewn with love. What inspires your handmade holiday gifts? If you are planning on sending something sewn to a loved one, or have a hand-sewn project on the horizon for yourself, then, make sure to ‘thread’ this contest into your schedule!

Beginning on Dec. 6, we are teaming up with online sewing community, BurdaStyle, to bring you a contest that’s ‘sew’ awesome! BurdaStyle members have the chance to win one of two $100 ModCloth gift certificates by creating a sewn fashion accessory to complement a product that they love on ModCloth. So go ahead, pick a product, any product! This item that you create could be a gift to someone else or for yourself!

How to Enter:

  • You must be a BurdaStyle member to enter. Don’t ‘baste’ any more time, join now!
  • Submit your sewn gift to the members project page with “ModCloth Handmade Contest” in the title.
  • On the project page, you must include a link to the complementary ModCloth item that inspired your project, along with a mention of whom you made your sewn masterpiece for!

What to Remember:

  • Your fashion accessory must be handmade, and include sewing.
  • It must complement an item on ModCloth.com.
  • It must be a gift for someone you love (including yourself!).
  • There will be two winners, one selected by voting and the other selected by us! Both winners will receive a $100 ModCloth gift certificate.
  • Contest begins on Dec. 6. Last day to submit is Dec. 21, 2010 at 11:59 p.m. EST! Member voting of the top 25 will begin on Dec. 28, and the winners will be announced on Jan. 4, 2011.
  • Each member can only vote for multiple people, but can only vote once-per-person!
  • Don’t forget about ModCloth’s contest rules as well as BurdaStyle’s contest rules!

We will be judging the top 25 submissions on not only the actual item, but also the description! Those 25 creations will be featured in a slideshow in the photo section, where BurdaStyle members will be able to vote for their favorites. After one week of voting, a winner will be announced via the BurdaStyle newsletter and the ModCloth Blog.

Two people can win a $100 ModCloth gift certificate, so make sure to share this with your craftiest cohorts!

Does it have to be an accessory, or can it be like, a dress worn with a Modcloth belt?

Can we accessorize an accessory with a piece of clothing? Thanks! =)

Yea, that’s the same exact thing that I was asking.

      Hi Amanda and Amber!
You may absolutely accessorize your accessory with a piece of clothing. So for instance, if you submitted a knit hat for your entry, you could choose a ModCloth dress that you think perfectly complements your creation. Hope that makes sense! 🙂

Thanks, Alicia! But we can’t reverse that and submit a dress that we made, accessorized with a Modcloth hat?

Does the entry item need to be sewn or just handmade? I have looked through both sets of rules on modcloth and burda.com and haven’t found any actual criteria for the entry. Could you please go more in depth as to what types of entries are allowed?
