The Style Gallery is a great new way for you to view, love, and share outfit photos. It’s meant to showcase all the expressive, creative, and inspirational personalities of our community!
Say hello to Nicole, ModStylist and artist!
Hometown: Pittsburgh, PA
Favorite trend of moment: Neons! I love color.
Most cringe-worthy outfit: Eighth grade, first day of school. I picked out this outfit of clogs, pleated pants, and a white CK top. I thought I was so cool.
You may not know this, but: I love board games! I’m obsessed with Settlers of Catan.
For ModStylist Nicole, a gasp of “What’s in your hair?” has become as familiar a greeting as, “Hello!”
At that point, Nicole will just explain the hairpiece fixed to her hair that day, whether it’s her giant cucumber clip, plastic bagel toy clip, or one of her similarly handmade paper crowns. As she sees it, fashion is art, and each outfit “is a creation, a composition of new patterns and colors.” Her kooky hairpieces and fun outfits are known throughout the office, and act as a fitting reflection of her effervescent personality.
While she has always loved fashion and art, it wasn’t until after she graduated from Bennington College’s art program that the two really clicked together. “I didn’t have a studio space where I was living, and needed to be creative, so [the hairpieces] turned into an outlet, and my outfits become more of an art form to me,” she says. Her first hairpiece was a painted cardboard flower, and her collection grew to include dollar store finds and intricate paper headpieces that make paper snowflakes look plain in comparison.
Fittingly, it was one of her hairpieces that got her to ModCloth. After she moved home to Pittsburgh to start her art career, she met ModCloth Fashion Writer Hannah. The two bonded over a mutual love for out-there hair accessories, and the rest is history!
When Nicole isn’t acting as one of your resident style gurus, helping you visualize outfits and solve your style conundrums on Facebook, chat, and phone, she works on her art, serves on the board of Pittsburgh’s Fe Gallery, and collects musical instruments.
