Model of the Month: Alex

At the shoot for our rad road trip campaign, gorgeous model Alex and her luminous smile brightened the set like a beam of warm California sunshine. Apart from an eye-catching on-camera presence, Alex also flaunts a big heart, dedication to her world and community, and a personality that’s equal parts passionate and playful. We got to know this standout gal in our latest model Q&A.

What does your sense of style say about you?

I’m a student and a model, so I like to keep my look very fashionable and polished. I have ten blazers! At the same time, my personal style is very fun and colorful. If you look into my closet, you will see every color of the rainbow!

What motivates you?

This may sound cheesy, but love is my greatest motivator and the cause that I am most interested in supporting. I am super passionate about interrupting oppressive social realities like racism, sexism, and body shaming. I’m currently working toward a degree in Critical Theory & Social Justice with an emphasis in race and the current incarceration system here in the U.S.

What retro fashions appear in your current closet?

I have two or three pairs of cat-eye sunglasses! Love them!

Name one destination you’ve always dreamed of visiting.

My family is a big Italian family, and they’re amazing. I want to go to Italy so that I can better know and understand my heritage. And, c’mon! Italian food is just so good!

If you could travel through time to one past era, which time period would you choose and why?

I’d rather see the future! I can read about what happened in the past, haha! I wanna see what the world looks like in 100 years.

Other than stepping in front of the camera, what do you do to express yourself?

I volunteer with different community outreach opportunities every week. I learn so much from the incredible people I encounter. I love learning about other cultures. It really helps me challenge my own understandings and ideologies. I also express myself by having mini dance parties in my room by myself, haha! I close the door, turn on some Beyoncé, and just dance around!

I totally agree with Alex in regards to time travel. Although I’d love to travel to the late 50’s, it’d only be for a nice shopping trip–I’m not crazy about how women and minorities were treated during that era, but I am very hopeful for the future.

Oh my….such a lovely lady! Great personality. Glad to see that Modcloth cares just as much about what’s on the inside as what’s on the outside, and both are simply beautiful.

Such a lovely model! And awesome answers! Don’t let the recent meanness of several commentors on Modcloth’s Facebook page get you down Alex, you are a beautiful lady! You are paving the way for hopefully many plus size models to come. Bravo!

You are gorgeous, Alex! I’m a bit jealous that you get to model for Modcloth – all those pretty clothes! (I live in Australia so no hope for me lol). I bought my mum the dress you’re wearing in the photo. It is a really flattering dress on curvier body types 🙂
I also agree with your stance on Italian food… I’m not Italian but I absolutely LOVE the cuisine!
