UPDATE (2/24/2017): ModCloth.com Got a Makeover: See What’s New

UPDATE (2/24/2017):

Last week, we re-launched our digital storefront (for desktop, mobile, and apps) onto a brand new commerce platform. Since then, our beloved community (yes, YOU!) has been great in sharing with us your first impressions, feedback, and ideas for what else you’d like to see changed or added in the future. Thank you!!

Some of you have asked, “Why did you change the site/platform?  It worked perfectly before!”  We can understand that — the old site did work pretty well, and though we’re working through some hiccups as we transition onto the new platform, we know it’ll be even better than before. We understand change can be difficult. There were many reasons we needed to update, and the easiest way to explain it is this: the old site was like our first car.  We fell in love with it as much as you did, but over the years, we found ourselves driving this old, well-loved (but a little beat-up) classic. While we had many amazing years together, we’re now ready for an upgrade to a newer model, after one too many experiences with the poor gas-mileage, frequent breakdowns, and high cost-of-repair which made it tough to drive every day. (And while we still LOVE all things vintage, it just didn’t make sense to use that old car to run our business into the future).

We have high hopes for where the new car — um, we mean platform — will take us. Thank you for your patience as we finalize this transition period. We are committed to continuing to give you the same unique, community-centered experience with ModCloth — where you feel accepted, empowered, and able to shop with confidence.

So keep the comments coming, and we’ll keep iterating and making improvements that serve your shopping needs and celebrate the best of you! If you are having any immediate problems with your order, please contact our Customer Care team via chat or call (888) 495–9699. We’re available by phone or Live Chat daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. ET).

All the best!

Your friends at ModCloth

020117-Theseus-Cutover-Blog-PostHere at ModCloth, we’ve been very busy over the last few weeks giving our site a bit of a makeover. It’s just another step towards making ModCloth even more of an inclusive, community-driven shopping experience. We’re always searching for ways to make shopping with us better, faster, and more convenient, so naturally we’re excited to tell you about so many exciting recent updates and new features. So, what’s new? Lots.

  • First, head on over to ModCloth.com or update your app and check out our new (& much improved, if we do say so ourselves) look!
  • We made sure you can find the styles in the colors you want by bringing them together all in one place. Love that Charter School Cardigan, for starters? Now, you can shop every color it comes in, all at once.
  • All your wishlists are now combined into one simplified, easily accessible and easily shareable list.
  • You can now find things quicker with our enhanced searchability.
  • Our new “responsive design” makes our website more accessible on whatever device you choose to use.
  • Our website and apps are faster, with additional security layers, and easier to use than ever.

Even more exciting updates are in the works behind the scenes here. We intend to continue our evolution into a destination shopping site where you feel more comfortable, recognized, and have a stronger sense of convenience. We’re creating even more personalized shopping experiences for our online community (including our international community) as well as for our stores. This is just the first step.

As you can see, lots of things have changed… but some things never will. Our commitment to being the most inclusive women’s fashion brand in America is our constant. We will continue to bring you the most compelling selection of unique styles that you can’t find anywhere else, and available in a full range of sizes.

And as always, community comes first at ModCloth. Your sentiments drove these updates and improvements, and we always make sure that you’re a big part of the journey. We put your feedback at the forefront of everything we do, and we’re always listening for your ideas on how to make the experience better, smoother, and more inclusive.  Thank you.

We hope you’ll take a look around at our new website and apps, give ‘em a spin, and tell us what you think!

+Very important: Have our app? Make sure you update to get the latest version. Don’t have it yet? Now’s a great time to download (plus, you get access to exclusive offers)!

    New site looks great!

  2. Olivia 02/16/2017 at 12:28 pm #

I’m having a lot of trouble with the site since the changes. I constantly receive “402 Bad Request” pages when clicking links. I’m unable to log in. A particular item I like is available in all sizes and can be added my cart in the app, but on the website it shows that the item is unavailable. The site is also not allowing me to add things to my cart. I use Google Chrome as my browser, and I have not updated my app. Hope that helps with troubleshooting! I’ve been an obsessive ModCloth shopper for 2 years now so I’m hoping the kinks get worked out soon 🙂

ModCloth’s remarketing campaign seems to be getting more sophisticated, less quirky. It’s also more plain and less distinctive in my opinion. I just hope ModCloth doesn’t lose its “heart” that makes it so unique and wonderful!

Sorry to hear about these issues! Our team is working ’round the clock to squash these bugs, so thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. Please reach out to Customer Care if you’re having ongoing problems. We also greatly appreciate your overall thoughts and feedback. It’s really important that we hear from our community, especially those who’ve known us for a long time! And we always look for feedback when curating our assortment. We’ll pass that info to the right team!

    • Rae B. 02/17/2017 at 12:11 am #

Agreed, Olivia…it appears to be a lot more sterile and unfeeling. Been a ModCloth shopper for YEARS and YEARS now, and this is probably the worst incarnation I’ve ever seen.

      • A 02/22/2017 at 12:07 pm #

        Olivia, Rae,
Yes, this “update” appears to have been accomplished with no set or true design or style guide, and the missing information makes it just that much harder to navigate.

I wrote them about the poor font choice that doesn’t translate to all devices, and I got a sterile letter saying isn’t their update Ah-Mazing!! and how awesome it was/is going to be.

I too have been a loyal customer for years, and I am with both of you. This is really the worst incarnation of the site ever.

  3. PMR 02/16/2017 at 3:07 pm #

I seem to have lost my entire Love List (both from the site and the iOS app) with the update.

    • PMR 02/16/2017 at 3:18 pm #

Also all my Wish Lists are gone.

Also, from the iOS app, my order history is now empty.

      • ModCloth 02/16/2017 at 3:22 pm #

So sorry for that inconvenience! Your Wishlist and love list should be populating to the new site shortly, and our team is working on a fix as we speak. If you need that info ASAP, chat our Care Team and they can help right away!

  4. Alexandra 02/16/2017 at 4:39 pm #

Glad to hear the wishlist issue is being worked on.

Kinda sad that most of my order history is now blank (most items are not listed, just the order total). Also not crazy about the fact that I can’t add something to my wishlist if it’s out of stock.

Also, did you guys waaaaaay scale back your variety of inventory? I hope that’s not a permanent change!

    • ModCloth 02/17/2017 at 2:34 pm #

Hi Alexandra — thanks so much for your input. Our community is what makes us special, and your feedback is what drives us to make adjustments and improvements to our site as well as our assortment. We’ll pass your thoughts along to the right folks here.

  5. Kym 02/16/2017 at 10:17 pm #

While I really like the new look, I can’t log in to my account at all (attempted to look up an order I placed yesterday). I’ve reset my password twice now, and while it takes the reset, I can’t log in.

    • Kym 02/16/2017 at 10:22 pm #

I do seem to be able to log into the iOS app, but I have no access to orders or wishlists/love lists

  6. Rae B. 02/17/2017 at 12:09 am #

Unable to log into my account, changed password multiple times and it still doesn’t work regardless of browser. Chat doesn’t work, wishlists are gone (with my account seemingly gone). Inventory seems sparse and with significant portions of it missing. Plus size and body inclusive representations are missing from this new, sterile site. I have an open order I need to be able to process a return/exchange for, and cannot get ahold of support or get into chat. So far, this new site is a HUGE DOWNGRADE and MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT as far as I’m concerned. If Modcloth has been working weeks to make this happen, then essentially you guys have been spending significant time and effort to break the existing site and make its functionality, usability, and appeal practically nonexistent.

Consider me an extremely disappointed customer. You’ve let me down, Modcloth. You’ve seriously let me down.

    • ModCloth 02/17/2017 at 2:14 pm #

Hi Rae B! Thank you for this honest and thoughtful feedback! With the site upgrade, we’re still working through a few glitches. All wishlist items, love lists, and account info should transfer to the new site shortly. As for the representations of body inclusivity, we’re actively working harder on visibility and representation. It’s our mission to be as inclusive as possible, but know there is more work to be done. Thank you again for reaching out.

    • A 02/22/2017 at 12:09 pm #

      Ray,
Same happened to me.. I eventually got the new password to stick, but lost all existing info. I captured screen shot my credit in case that tries to go away.

  7. Hannah 02/17/2017 at 1:20 pm #

Sorry to complain but the new app is now “incompatible ” with my android. So now I have no way to view modcloth. Seriously bummed. Was told to wait a couple hours…next day same problem.

    • ModCloth 02/17/2017 at 8:38 pm #

Sorry about the app bugs. We’re working on squashing them all as fast as we can!

  8. Dee 02/17/2017 at 2:07 pm #

So my wishlist disappeared, along with my whole order history (I’ve been shopping with modcloth for over 7 years). I have a package on the way, but I can’t even see that order. When I check my email to get the tracking, it takes me to a broken link. I tried to send a message to customer service, but that link is broken too! I’m sure you guys are working on this, but it’s really a mess right now.
Also, does combining wishlists into one mean we can’t have more than one list now? Because that is less convenient for me, I like to have different, organized lists for different items (gift ideas, housewares, clothing, etc). I hope we are still able to customize this.

    • ModCloth 02/17/2017 at 8:43 pm #

Thanks for this feedback, Dee! We are busy bringing the wishlists, order history, and other account info back ASAP. And yes, you are correct that you’ll only be able to have one wishlist for now. However, we hear you about the convenience and usefulness of having multiple lists, and we’ve passed that info onto the team responsible for making upcoming site adjustments and improvements.

  9. H 02/17/2017 at 3:25 pm #

I am also unable to login to see an existing order or track it through the shipment notification email. All links in the promo emails that I receive from Modcloth are broken too (so why send them at all?). If I try to reach out to customer care, I am told that I need to wait for an hour to get anyone on the line. This seems to be a very poorly managed site upgrade – very disappointed.

    • ModCloth 02/17/2017 at 8:51 pm #

Sincerest apologies, H. We know there are some glitches and bugs that are making things inconvenient and frustrating. We are working on getting things up and running as quickly as we can! If you do want to take advantage of a promo or offer you receive and you’re having site issues, we can place an order for you over the phone: 1-888-495-9699. We realize our lines might be a little more tied up than usual at the moment, too. You can also contact us via email or live chat, too: https://www.modcloth.com/help. Thank you for your patience and your feedback.

  10. Viper Allan 02/17/2017 at 7:02 pm #

I synced Modcloth’s new arrival page up with my RSS aggregator, but items are no longer appearing since the redesign. What is the new RSS feed for new arrivals? Thanks!

  11. Noemi 02/17/2017 at 8:04 pm #

Finding myself mildly heartbroken looking at the changes that have been made to the app/site…why on earth did anyone feel they had to “fix” something that wasn’t broken in the first place?? 🙁 I’ve been an absolutely obsessed ModCloth customer for at least 5 years, and the quirky style and unique branding was a big part of why I loved it in the first place. I’m sure the technical glitches with the love lists and whatnot will be resolved soon enough, but the bigger changes to overall look and presentation are what I find most unwelcome – they make the site feel like a totally different place, and in effect drain the very essence out of what made ModCloth, ModCloth. Aw man, what a gigantic bummer.

  12. ModCloth 02/17/2017 at 9:12 pm #

Thanks for this feedback, Noemi. Sorry that you’re still having app and site issues — we’re working hard to get things up & running ASAP. And we appreciate your thoughts about the new design. While the look and feel of the site may have changed, our mission to bring you a strong selection of retro, classic, quirky, unique, and modern-day styles will never change. We’re still very much the same company, and our community is what really makes us special. That’s why hearing your feedback is important, and we’ll pass it along to the right team here.

  13. Tracey 02/19/2017 at 4:32 pm #

Am I mistaken or do you no longer show what size the person ordered next to their review if they chose to leave that information? If so, I would highly consider bringing that back- it’s really difficult for a lot of people to tell exactly what size to order, and reading reviews from people and seeing the pairing of their measurements + size ordered helped seriously inform me on my purchases choices and reduce the likelihood that I would need to return an item, or would just pass on the item altogether out of uncertainty.

Also, the reviews still really lack searchability so I can’t narrow down reviews to people who are similarly sized to me, or uploaded a photo, etc. which is a huge bummer.

    • ModCloth 02/20/2017 at 5:56 pm #

Hi Tracey! We are still working on transferring some of this site information over, so thank you for that feedback. And thank you for your patience and understanding while we work on the new site!

  14. Cheryl 02/19/2017 at 11:27 pm #

I like that you can now easily find the different colours and patterns for each item in once place, but I’m noticing that things are running a lot slower. I loved the old app design and website so I’m not sure how I feel about the change. It was perfect the way it was! =/ Also there isn’t nearly as much inventory as there once was, so I hope the smaller inventory is just a temporary thing. You used to be able to see 300 items per page and there were so many things to look at! I can definitely see me scaling back my time visiting/browsing without as much there.

  15. kitty 02/21/2017 at 1:17 pm #

Like: Seeing different colorways for same style on same page
Dislike: Inconsistent length availability in the Details tab, “Saved for Later” items gone, Shopping Cart gone (and not working), Order History decimated (9+ years’ worth!), clicking forces browse to item detail page instead of “quick shop” popup, can’t view more than 84 items per page, basic-looking font (as ugly as iOS “upgrade”), size filters messed up.

This seems to be a poorly planned and executed site / app change.

    • kitty 02/22/2017 at 1:10 am #

The new font is soooo ugly! I had over 90 items in my “Saved for Later” that I had collected for the past two years and they’re gone! Order history page is very poorly laid out, still missing a bunch of my orders from 2008 / 2009, and actual details are gone – the old page was so much better! Having to click, then click, then click again is really annoying. I regularly check my order history when I shop to compare prices / similar items. Really, the only good change I see is having the multiple colors for same style on the same page. And at least I can finally add items to my cart (though saving them is another thing…). I visit MC every day; have done so for years. So disappointed with these changes.

  16. Michelle 02/21/2017 at 1:24 pm #

I was unable to log in for almost a week. Customer care couldn’t really help – they just kept sending me the password reset link. Eventually (yesterday) I was finally able to log in, but was met with disappointment. The new site is very pretty, but not quite functional. When shopping and I get to the bottom of a page, I click the next page number, and the next page loads but at the bottom of the list forcing me to scroll all the way back to the top before repeating the process. Not user friendly.
Over the past year I’ve seen less quality in the clothing. Not sure if this just naturally fluctuates or if this is indicative of what to expect from Modcloth now.

Sad to see the not-so-great changes that Modcloth has made as it was my favorite shopping site for the longest time. I’ll still be lurking around in hopes of seeing more of what made me fall in love with Modcloth in the first place.

  17. A 02/22/2017 at 12:10 pm #

Are you all aware that the “New Today” is not just todays new stuff?
Are you aware that the “New Today” turn over or go live time appears to be random?
Are you aware that the “New Yesterday” is now 3 or 4 days ago product?

this update makes me very sad.

    • Amy J 02/25/2017 at 2:17 pm #

Yes… this is my least favorite part of the “upgrade” too! I loved that MC would actually add a few new items every day, it made it fun… I hope/wonder if it’s just a coding issue? It seems like a super buggy upgrade that wasn’t really ready to roll out.

  18. A 02/22/2017 at 2:03 pm #

Ohh, I have to chuckle, (wryly, and with disappointment)
Aside from clearly failing a beta test, and poor fonts, loss of data, and customers now crying for the destruction of what was once a great site..

Look at the dates for people who wrote on the 21st! This font choice puts them as 21/2017
If this writes correctly in the larger text, that is two, one half, zero, seventeen.

I don’t believe anyone in Dev is actually paying attention, or gives a hoot.

    A

    • kitty 02/23/2017 at 2:53 pm #

@A: As a longtime software developer and dev manager, I too giggled at the 21/2017 font fail. I have heard that MC has cycled through at least two sets of developers / dev managers in the past few years, which cannot be good for the stability of their codebase.

For me, the biggest disappointment is that they have completely removed product detail pages and reviews for out of stock and discontinued items. For me and many other people (especially Stylish Surprise shoppers), these pages provide valuable information that aids in shopping decisions and sharing / trading MC items on social media. Killing off this feature breaks the bond many longtime MC customers have with the site. As someone who has spent thousands of dollars over the past 10 years on many of MC’s “unicorn” dresses (and more mainstream offerings as well), these changes feel particularly alienating. Why would loyal customers want to leave detailed reviews with photos if all that is going to be deleted once an item is no longer current? Whoever thought of that not-brilliant idea needs to have a seat and talk to MC’s biggest customers.

      • A 02/24/2017 at 9:12 am #

        @Kitty,
Ditto that! I wrote them a list of problems/redlines, and I hope you do the same.
I also work in software, and the lack of Beta, poor release of broken product really gets me a bit peeved.

And I too feel the disconnect to the company. I wouldn’t be seriously hunting for stuff right now if I didn’t have a credit, that I desperately want to use before they drown in their own ineptitude.

That cycle speed of change in Dev is a bit much. I had thought it may be a top down, bean counter thing, where they were “saving” money, (you know, all those lean practices), but in fact loosing customers hand over fist in the process. For the Bean Counter, that is still a win because in accounting, staff and salaries go into overhead, where sales are in a different column.

I hope they get yesterdays pictures up, sometime before EOW today… Otherwise.. Well.. It will become the time of way past caring.

        Have a great one.

  19. K 02/23/2017 at 11:27 am #

So disappointed with the new site. Poor choice of fonts, boring color scheme, sloppy layout, and still extremely glitchy. I’ve been a loyal customer for nearly eight years and this, coupled with the new sterile/boring inventory is leaving me speechless. What happened? Is someone new in charge? You’ve lost your heart, Modcloth. Really unbelievable that you’d so drastically change what you’ve been about from the beginning.

    • kitty 02/24/2017 at 12:16 am #

@K: They got a new CEO in 2015. Check the reviews and ratings on Glassdoor. Doesn’t look promising.

      • A 02/24/2017 at 7:52 pm #

@kitty: Holy heck! That explains everything!

  20. kitty 02/23/2017 at 3:14 pm #

One more thing…MC should try to be more consistent if putting all colorways of the same style on the same page. I see this has not been done for all items. Examples: recently added flavors (Lemonade and Spearmint) of the Feeling Serene maxi dress, recently added Lagoon color of the Receiving Drop Honors earrings.

  21. kitty 02/24/2017 at 2:07 pm #

Why are so many new items missing pictures on the website? Examples: A Matter of Patterns A-Line Dress, Oh Geo My Bracelet in Saffron, Camera Flash Finesse Wrap Dress in Blue Dots.
