Meet Nugget, ModCloth’s Most Distinguished ModDog

Among the many ModDogs of our Pittsburgh office, few manage to stand taller and prouder than Nugget … despite the fact that he might just be the shortest of them all (not counting the ears, of course). For the past four years, this ModDog of significant distinction has been a fixture in our photo studio, the canine companion of Brittney, our Senior Merch Talent Scout.

Estimated to be about thirteen, Brittney wanted the chance to teach an older dog some new tricks. “My late boyfriend and I rescued him from the Humane Society. We wanted to give a good home to an older dog whose chance of being adopted was a little slimmer than others. He’s having the most amazing golden years a dog could have.”

While Nugget’s origins remain misty — “I know there’s some dachshund in him but that’s all I’ve found to be factual. He’s always looked, to me, like he was made out of a mish-mosh of random dog parts. I mean this in the cutest way possible. There’s no one like him,” says Brittney — he was perfectly happy to leave the shelter behind in favor of the sweet life. “He’s retired, after all. At work, he sleeps under my desk in his tricked out, memory foam bed, and he as an affinity for scones, coffee, and carrots. He gets to actually have the carrots.”

While he doesn’t have any dog brothers, “Nugget has a super neurotic Bengal cat sister that he avoids at all costs” adds Brittney.

Described as crotchety, sleepy, and hungry, Brittney adds “Even though he’s a bit (OK, a lot) gassy and gives the stinkiest of kisses, I still carry him to bed every night like a little baby, and tuck him in. He has my whole heart.”

And with that, our hearts have officially melted.

Awww Nugget is so cute! He actually looks almost just like my dog! I wish I could attach a photo so you could see what I mean because I think you would be surprised! My pup is a dachshund/chihuahua mix. Also, it makes me so happy that you decided to give an older dog a home! There are so many of them out there that need homes.
