Travel Diary: ModCloth at the Texas Style Council Conference and SXSW!

Whew! After hours of travel, a bunch of us Modsters are back from our whirlwind trip to Austin, Texas, where we attended South by Southwest Interactive (SXSW) and The Texas Style Council Conference, which was put on by bloggers Indiana of Adored Austin and Gretchen of Gretchen’s Closet.

What did we do deep in the heart of Texas? Keep on reading and find out!

At the Texas Style Council Conference,Β  ModCloth founder Susan spoke on a panel about community and led a break-out session for small business owners. (This busy lady also sat on a panel at SXSW!)

Other speakers included Jennine Jacob, founder of Independent Fashion Bloggers and The Coveted, who gave the conference’s keynote speech. We later ran into Jen of Jen Loves Kev decked out in ModCloth, and just had to take a pic of her with Susan!

We also attended a blogger party at BoConcept, which had pop-up shops, a craft station, and a fun photo booth “wo-manned” by Amy of Nathan Russell Photography. Hats off to Amy, who snapped that first pic of me and our social media manager, Natasha, as well as these photos of ModCloth co-founders Susan and Eric! (Aren’t they the cutest couple in the world?)

It was important for us to stay fueled up for all the fun-filled days. I tried my first avocado margarita (it was dang good!) and noshed on a Mighty Cone. What’s a Mighty Cone? It’s a bacony waffle cone filled with goodies! I opted for egg, pico di gallo, and more bacon! We also stopped by to say hi to Ice Cream Man, who spreads cheer at festivals around the country by handing out free frozen treats to anyone who stops by.

Before we left, though, we couldn’t resist playing Sartorialist with these girls, whom we spotted wearing ModCloth at the Austin Convention Center. They’ve certainly perfected looking stylish while staying comfy for a long day of panels and parties.

Did you attend SXSW or the Texas Style Council Conference? What were some of the highlights for you?

About Turi

When Turi isn’t blogging, you can find her nose behind a book. But reading isn’t her only pastime. She loves running (cue jogging stroller), taste-testing pizza and burgers, and working on the next great American novel. Her latest homage to all things literary? Her son is named after writer Dashiell Hammett. How apropos.

I was at the conference too! There were too many great moments to narrow down my favorites, but I definitely learned the most during the panel on authenticity. I also enjoyed hearing Modcloth founder Susan discussing community. As a relatively new blogger, I’m only just becoming aware of how important connecting to other bloggers is. The blogging world is smaller and more supportive that I ever thought. Actually, I learned a lot from all the panels.

How did I miss seeing those waffle cones? They looks amazingly yummy!
