It’s no secret that we’re psyched for swim season. If you need a little reminder of how wonderful the waves can be, dive into this list of some of our favorite pool moments from the silver screen. Check ’em out!

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

In between trips to the ballpark and unbridled parade performances, Ferris and the gang take a breather in a backyard pool.

Things get a little dicey when Cameron, everyone’s favorite Danny Downer, takes an unexpected plunge into the deep end, but the result is a clear-headed Cam and the perfect GIF for when your coworker surprises your department with much-needed coffee.

Garden State

Garden State captures tender, heartbreaking ennui like nobody’s business, especially in the quirky, quiet pool scene. Hazy lights, dreamy blue water, awkward new love… oh boy, here come the emo feels.

Almost Famous

Who’s a golden god? Oh, that’s right.

Purple Rain

Okay, so it’s not exactly a pool scene. And it certainly isn’t summery. But Prince and Apollonia prove that if you’re passionate enough, swim season knows no bounds (even when it comes to climate).

Like most classic Prince moments, the end of this scene is a tad too PG-13 for this blog, but let’s just take a second to admire this marvelous little Minnesotan and band-leading lady. Leather jacket as swim style? Apollonia proves it’s a yes.

It’s A Wonderful Life

Do you want the moon, Mary? Well, sure, George. Right after you get me one of these awesome secret pools that lives under a retractable floor. Because this thing is rad.

Literally Any Esther Williams Movie

We would be seriously remiss if we didn’t mention the woman behind some of our favorite bathing suits ever. Esther Williams was an Olympian and a businesswoman in addition to being the dreamiest movie star in the pool. Catch Bathing Beauty or Million Dollar Mermaid, then get in the water and try out some of her brilliantly balletic moves!

+ ‘Water’ you watching this summer?

About Anna

Anna's the kind of don't-take-yourself-too-seriously gal who can spend an evening at Monday Night Raw and then turn around and write about nail designs and glitter with just as much sincere, unadulterated delight. She's a firm believer in cats' ability to see ghosts, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the fact that if she wishes enough, she'll never have to iron again.
