Not everyone has a week-long spring break scheduled into their calendars (students, we’re lookin’ at you, ya lucky ducks), but no one can resist a little springtime getaway! Whether yours is a long, lavish trip or a day-long drive, we recommend using your spring break as an excuse to give your wardrobe a vacation, too. We asked ModStylist Molly to create three looks inspired by our favorite alternative destinations — spots you won’t see in Spring Breakers, but which don’t disappoint when it comes to vacay adventure. Check out Molly’s pretty, packable looks, and share your break plans (and style tips) in the comments!

Portland, Oregon

3 Spring Break Trips & Outfits That Break from the Ordinary

If you’re Portlandia fans like we are, then it’s no surprise why this northwest town is on the must-see list. Bursting with music venues, imaginative artists, and out-of-this-world noms, Portland’s the kind of town where discovering spring break memories (and Instagram-worthy moments) requires but a walk down the street. To fit in with the hip crowds in this city, Molly recommends a cool mix of laid-back and structured layers. Start with some sleek skinnies, such as our Gotta Jet Set Jeans in Black, then throw in a flowy top with an unexpected graphic to give your look a carefree air. Accessorize your look with a tough-gal jacket, boots, and effortless accessories, to capture that why-yes-I-am-the-lead-singer-in-that-band-you-love vibe.

Sausalito, California

You and your pals will love exploring the shoreline parks and charming culture of this Bay Area beauty. With its proximity to San Fran, it’s no wonder that Sausalito is an artsy destination with plenty of adorable boutiques and restaurants. After you pick up a few stylish souvenirs for yourself, take a stroll by the bay to check out this town’s unique houseboat culture. Yep — when these folks say they live on the water, they literally live on the water! What’s even more awesome than a floating neighborhood? Your outfit! Molly says, “Keeping it simple with a fabulous jumpsuit like our Picky Cruisey Jumpsuit, is an easy way to start your look.” After a breezy day, get prepped for a posh happy hour by adding heels, such as our Strappy Day Heels, a bright blazer, and a snazzy hat. Oh, and you can’t visit the shore without some serious statement sunglasses. Slip these on, and you’ll instantly feel like a true California gal.

Newport, Rhode Island

Elegance is the name of the game in Newport, a wealthy New England town dotted with gorgeous mansions and shops. Start your day toasting mimosas, then go exploring the historic sites, museums, and flower-flecked community of Newport. Don’t forget to help your style rise to the austere occasion. Molly says, “Sticking with a chic and classic look is going to be the way to go. The In Respite of It All Dress is a simple, yet chic and solid option.” With this understated silhouette as a starting point, give your outfit some sophisticated structure — choose shoes and accessories with clean, modern lines, and top things off with a statement-making, tailored blazer. The final touch? A little bit of bling. Molly picked a necklace that twinkles with old-school charm, just like your dazzling destination!

It’s pretty fun to see others takes on Portland. (As I sit in a crowded coffee shop across the Columbia on a rainy Saturday 😉
