We’re thrilled to announce our first-ever blogger-designed clothing line featuring the work of fellow vintage enthusiast Elsie Larson of A Beautiful Mess! This 10-piece collection, built with bits of playful flair from dots to gingham, is inspired by the things she loves, tunes she listens to, and, of course, her own retro-rich aesthetic.
Check out her initial sketches and moodboard below, which includes special designer commentary by Elsie, and make sure to follow our A Beautiful Mess for ModCloth board on Pinterest to peek her guest pins for even more behind-the-scenes fun! Take it away, Elsie!
“During the initial stages of design, I was inspired by folk music, denim and chambray, and cowgirl vibes,” says Elsie. “I wanted the collection to be playful and wearable to a bonfire or autumn wedding. I designed pieces that I really wanted to wear, and I had fun imagining quirky details to include!”
“My moodboard is full of things that remind me of autumn, and I drew inspiration from a few of my past collections and vintage designs. Choosing fabrics was one of my favorite parts! I feel in love with the ones used in this collection.”
“This is just a silly photo of me with a cactus in my studio. I’ve been surrounding myself with folky decorations and listening to plenty of Neil Young, Camera Obscura, Jenny Lewis, and Roy Orbison.”
“I love styling my clothing designs. Choosing the pieces that are going to work with each dress is almost as much fun as designing the dress. I thought red tights would be so cute with the gingham dress I’m sketching above.”
“Sketching is one of my passions. I have books full of dress designs and it was fun to collaborate with ModCloth to bring some of them to life!”
The line launches officially in early October, but you can sign up for notifications now. Click here to browse Elsie’s items!
