How can one not smile while wearing sparkle pants? Though a single tear is shed from the noble eye on the Big, Bad Tee, there’s no doubt in my mind that it’s a tear of joy, or irony. My own closet is filled with a lot of black tights, black dresses, and black shoes. But, dotted here and there like pennies in a fountain are cartoonish t-shirts, brightly colored leggings, and novelty jewelry. Flares of whimsy are like Indian spices to the white rice of my wardrobe. These flavors make me giggle, smirk, and can apparently make a wolf cry.
For this Outfit of the Week, I was first drawn to the Garden Gams Leggings for their floral design. The vibrant hues of Spring and Summer excite me and what better time to don these lively leggings than December in Pittsburgh. It can get a little dreary here during the winter months, but once the annuals start blooming and the trees are green again, all the slate and grey just melt away.
From there I rekindled by desire for the ever popular Moltisanti Blazer. I have been dying for this sophisticated blazer since it first appeared on the site. Being a young professional in the city (a.k.a. a “yuppy” if I dare say) sharp looking, tweed blazers are a must have. They’re trendy yet classic, functional yet attractive. Then, for all this blazer’s seriousness, I just had to throw in some tomfoolery. The Who Wears Cute Shorts spoke to me directly. They said, “Oh, you’re here at last. We’ve been waiting for you.” These snug shorts are the glue that binds my black garments to my fun garments. They’re subtle enough for just a little light show and not an all-out Velvet Goldmine laser light spectacular.
Heels are not a major part of my footwear, but I’m starting to branch out. The Venti Espresso Heels not only remind me of what wakes me up in the morning, but also the variety of adorable oxfords and brogues I’ve been in love with lately. The chunky 3.5 inch heel sold me, not to mention the lustrous patent leather and laces that reminded me of something Sally Bowles would wear. I mean, isn’t life a cabaret sometimes?
I accessorized with the vaudevillian Osprey Headband to contrast with my dark hair and the squirrel Urban Forest Ring. Don’t laugh, but I have this thing about squirrels. A good friend of mine gave me this ring as a gift because of my endearing dislike for the animal. I do enjoy this ring because it makes me laugh and the bright orange transparent material really picks up the light.
Lastly, I needed something to peek out from the Moltisanti Blazer. Something casual, something wild, something in fur. To balance out the refined jacket and spicy shorts and leggings I looked toward t-shirts, the laid back, girls next door of the clothing world. The calm colors of the Big, Bad Tee not only matched the blazer, but worked with rounding out this photo-sensitive, funhouse romp of a getup. And that single tear attempting to attentuate the wolf’s glee, it gets me every time. Cleary, this wolf is having fun.
