Today we’re celebrating the Wonder Women who make our worlds go round: all the mamas! From the ModCloth family to yours, we wish you a Happy Mother’s Day! What better way to celebrate the holiday than with our fave new mother, @afashionnerd, aka Amy Roiland. Check out her marvelous ModCloth must-haves – they make greats gifts for mom. Read on to see how she’s celebrating her first Mother’s Day as a mama. And if you haven’t already, call your mom!
Congratulations on your bundle of joy and Happy Mother’s Day! How are you planning on celebrating your first Mother’s Day as a mom?
My husband is planning to cook us a wonderful dinner and watch a fun Mother’s Day-themed movie such as Mother’s Day. He is also buying me a few new bras, which I am desperate for lately! We will also be doing a fun Mother’s Day shoot in my studio with my daughter Ryder. I am so excited! I always love shooting with her, especially when she is this small.
Do you have any Mother’s Day traditions that you share with your mother? Like flowers for Mother’s Day?
I love driving up north to Manteca where my parents are and staying a few days. We wake up on Mother’s Day and go to our favorite cafe, My Garden Cafe, in Ripon. After this we plan to see a matinee, most likely a romantic comedy. Then later in the night, we would go out to dinner. I, of course always buy my mom pink roses, every single Mother’s Day. If I can’t make it up north for some reason, I make sure to send her some via mail.
A newborn baby is a full-time job! What’s a piece of advice you would share with new mothers?
Be patient always. She is just a baby, so always be cool! It will get better and better as she gets older. Newborns can be hard because you don’t always know what they want. You will get the hang of it fast and learn how to communicate with your baby and know what he or she needs. Ryder is 3 months now, and I really feel like I always know what she wants. I know how to make her happy for sure!
Growing up, did your mother ever give you fashion advice? What’s a piece of style advice you would like to pass along to your daughter?
No, my mom never gave me any fashion advice. My mom has never been into fashion! I want my daughter to have fun with color and print in her wardrobe. I want her to feel confident in what she wears and also feel fun and vibrant. Dressing up fun will not only bring a smile to your face, but to others as well.
You have the unique experience of spending time with your newborn during a quarantine. What has that experience been like for you?
This time has been a dream for me! I love spending time at home with my husband and baby, and our cat and dog. It’s felt like an extended paternity leave for my husband, which is wonderful for me and for Ryder. He has an office in the back so it’s very nice to see him throughout the day. I feel very grateful to be with my family during this stressful time!
Your imagery on Instagram is like an instant mood-booster! How do stay positive during trying times such as these?
I am always trying to stay positive, no matter what life brings me. I always try to look at the bright side of things. It’s been very rough lately with all of this tragedy and people being sick, but I have tried to really focus on creating fun, beautiful content to brighten everyones days. I wanted to stop posting for a while because I just felt weird about it, but my audience begged me to continue posting. They really love my fun, colorful, vibrant feed and it brings them a ton of joy to see Ryder and what she’s been up to during this time.
