Mark your calendars, send those flowers, pick up the phone—Mother’s Day is this Sunday! Here at ModCloth, we love to give a special shoutout to our very own moms, particularly their throwback style. A few members of our team kindly sent us their mom photos, and true to fashion, we created some outfits to match. Take a look, get inspired, and don’t forget to call your mom!
Assistant Technical Designer, Mei, sent these stunning photos of her mother, ChenFen, who lives in Taiwan. “When I was a kid, I remember seeing her wearing big shiny earrings and big glasses,” Mei says. “She loves ’70s and ’80s styles. Her walk-in closet was my favorite place to hang out.” Of her mom, Mei adds, “Her passion for fashion and her lifestyle inspired me to work in the fashion industry.” So inspiring, Mei! Here, we recreated ChenFen’s effortless, summer-ready look with a floral dress, cinch belt, and walkable flats. Perfect for a day of sightseeing!
Before “plant lady” was the new “cat lady” and macrame made a comeback, there was Bonnie, the mother of Social Media Coordinator, Nicole. “Here’s my mama, Bonnie,” says Nicole. “So ON TREND with the macrame!” Funny that she’s on trend now, since Bonnie herself says “I was never one to follow trends…I liked what I liked…I would describe my style as casual and comfortable. I mean, you weren’t going to see me on the cover of Vogue or anything.” Her favorite color? Rust! “I definitely liked the color rust,” Bonnie adds. “My friends nicknamed me ‘Rusty.'” Here, we recreated Rusty’s, err, Bonnie’s look with a striped shirt, rust slacks, and an embroidered botanical bag. We’d recommend this ensemble for a trip to the nursery to pick up a new houseplant or two.
“Here is my mom, Marilyn, at a concert,” says Jen, ModCloth’s Quality Assurance Associate. “She was in several rock bands throughout the ’70s,’80s, and part of the ’90s. In my teens I loved to dress up in all her stage outfits, from leather skirts, to black fishnet gloves, and all sorts of bangle bracelets and accessories!” Jen adds, “She’s always been known to my friends as ‘the cool mom.’ Even today, in her 60s, she knows how to make an impression.” Rock on, Marilyn! Here, we swapped her ‘Cardaz’ local band tee with this cute graphic top, added a pair of checkered pants, and finished with comfy sneaks. Now we’re ready to stand front row at our next concert. Although I don’t think we could recreate those awesome hair waves!
