Lesa and I met at the London College of Fashion, where we often dreamed about starting up a business together — it was just a case of waiting for the right moment. We started Olivia Burton after a eureka moment when we spotted a gap in the market for beautiful, affordable watches. We always struggled to find watches we loved and often ended up with vintage one-offs, which whilst lovely and unusual, were quite unreliable and unpractical.
What are your roles in the company?
Lesa and I look after different aspects of the business. I focus more specifically on production and marketing, and Lesa looks after our sales team and the finance. We’re both very heavily involved with the design of the watches, so we sit down and talk through our ideas with our design team, and together we work on the new collections. We are so passionate about designing and are constantly inspired by the catwalk, vintage finds, and the beautiful countryside.
What is it you love most about watches?
Wrist watches as we know them today were first worn by women over 100 years ago. Men back then used to mock women for wearing them, referring to them a nothing more than a fad. Now, they are the most popular accessory in the world and are a great way to instantly update your outfit.
When/why did you get interested in fashion?
From a young age, we both loved fashion and knew it was the only career we wanted to pursue. Securing our first jobs with major fashion retailers was such an exciting moment for us, and now seeing Olivia Burton loved by so many people is just incredible. We are so lucky to have such wonderful support from our customers.
Who is “Olivia Burton”?
Olivia Burton is named after Lesa’s great aunt, who has a great sense of style and attitude towards life. She has a fantastic name, too!
