Model of the Month: Liz

Merchandise model Liz loves to tread off the beaten path. This Pittsburgh beauty backs up her star-quality smile with a chemical engineering background, and an adventurous outlook on life and fashion. Today, we get to know Liz’s playful perspective on modeling.

What talents, quirks, or qualities make you unique?
I think my diversity of interests make me unique. Even though I went to school for chemical engineering, I am equally interested in fashion, art, and cooking. Other than that, I can make my arms look like they’re on backwards, which is pretty special.

What kind of product is most fun to model for, and why?
Anything unusual! It’s always easier to get into the mood of what you’re wearing when it’s a little weird. The best part of modeling is trying on all sorts of clothes you might not usually wear.

If we saw you on your day off, what would you be wearing?
I love to wear short dresses with ankle boots or high-waisted shorts with crop tops. I don’t like when my clothes look too fresh and new, so usually I wear a mix that includes plenty of thrift and vintage. Also, I wear the same jewelry every day – tiny gold earrings up my ear and old rings from my mom. Rumor has it that one of the rings was procured by my great uncle over a gambling debt. Very shady stuff.

How do you express yourself?
Definitely through what I’m wearing. I always joke that the only reason I wake up in the morning is to get dressed. It’s so interesting to me how personality and style work together. It’s like an art form that everyone participates in, one way or another.

Do you have a favorite photo of yourself?
My brother recently found a picture of me at the Grand Canyon from when I was probably 9 years old. I’ve always been a strange kid, and this photo captures it perfectly. Let’s just say I resemble Olive from the movie Little Miss Sunshine way too closely.

Other than modeling, what are you most passionate about?
I get so much enjoyment out of writing and taking photos for my blog, Schmatta Matters. It’s hard to always find the time or a photographer to take pictures, but I hope to continue to maintain it. I started it during college when I was feeling like my ability to express my creative side was being squashed by all the calculus. It’s definitely served its purpose in my life.
