We’re all smiles this month, as we turn the spotlight on Jennifer – a California gal with a knack for vintage shopping, an eye for fashion (check out her blog, Seeking Style), and a grin worth a million bucks. Find out what looks, people, and boy band (yes, boy band) make this trendsetter tick in our model Q&A!
What do you do to express yourself?
As much as I desperately wish that I could sing, dance, write, draw or paint, I am quite limited in artistic talent. So, I started my personal style blog, Seeking Style. It’s a place for me to express myself and be creative the only way I know how – through my style and clothing. Some days, I may be in black, head to toe, and others, I may be in a brightly colored, patterned, long kimono. I dress day to day, based on my feelings, and what I want to exude to others. My blog is my place to be completely myself.
Why did you begin modeling?
I suppose that my interest in modeling started after I began my blog. I began spending so much time putting together outfits and mini photo shoots for myself that I really came to love the creative process – everything from the beginning planning stages to seeing the final outcome is fascinating to me, and I wanted to be [professionally] involved with it somehow.
Describe your ideal outfit.
Black skinny jeans. A big hat. Black ankle boots. And a sweater big enough to be confused with a blanket.
Who are your personal heroes or inspirations?
As cliche as it may be, my personal inspirations are my very own family and friends. I admire seeing those that I love succeed, not giving up, and dreaming big. Growing up, I learned a strong work ethic from my parents that I will be forever grateful for. I aspire to be carefree and love life like my siblings. My fiance is the most driven person I know, who keeps me pursuing my dreams. My friends keep me grounded, and seeing them succeed pushes me to want to be my best. I am always inspired by and deeply respect those that I choose to have in my life.
What are you most passionate about, and why?
I consider myself a kind of “thrifting connoisseur”. Yes, it so happens that thrifting is currently a fad, but I have been doing it for so long that I cannot even remember the last time I bought a clothing item at full price. Thrifting is like shopping at all of the stores in all eras of time at once. It is easily the best way to find unique pieces, and even score current trends. I actually cannot wait to own a home and begin filling it with thrifted treasures and furniture from flea markets and antique fairs!
What would people be surprised to learn about you?
I think people who do not know me would be surprised to know that I am probably one of the biggest Backstreet Boys fans ever. I have been a fan, along with my best friend, for more than half my life. We go to concerts, promotional appearances, and we have even been on the Backstreet Boys cruise. Twice. I have seen the Backstreet Boys upwards of 60 times in the last twelve years, since my first concert in 2001. My parents used to call it “a phase,” and I am honestly so grateful that they were wrong.
