That’s why our ModStylists crafted some innovative ensembles to show you the way to a NYE outfit with elegance, edge, and the just-right amount of glitz and glam.
First up, a radiant look with a retro vibe. Follow Franny’s advice, and you’re certain to show up for your New Year’s Eve occasion both looking and feeling classy—but in a creative way!
The What: “This outfit starts with a killer, ’20s inspired drop waist dress and takes it up a notch with funky accessories and details. The purple dress itself might seem fairly casual, but when you add a sleek pair of velvet, peep toe platforms and a bold, plaid coat, you send this look into overdrive. It’s got all the trappings of a vintage-inspired look with a NYE feel – in this outfit, I’m ready to welcome the new year with style and grace.”
The Where: “I’d wear this look to a raucous house party with all my best buds; if we decide to head up to the local park bar for drinks and fireworks at midnight, I’m ready!”
The How: “Look first for a basic shift dress in a gorgeous hue and then top it off with a printed coat and textured heels. If bold red lips are your thing, you can never go wrong with a swipe of your favorite gloss to finish it off.”
Hello, avant-garde glamour! Alainia explains the deets behind DIY-ing this daring look:
The What: “My outfit takes a traditional New Year’s Eve dress and kicks it into high gear by adding an amazing pair of printed slacks. The colors are vibrant and festive, yet still modern, and adding a neutral pair of heels helps to keep everything streamlined.”
The Where: “I’d plan to wear this outfit to happy hour with my best girlfriends before we head to our favorite nightclub to dance the year away.”
The How: “To recreate this style, look for an amazing mini dress in bold pattern or color, and then add a contrasting pair of skinny pants or jeans and your favorite neutral heel. Add a swipe of black eyeliner and your best evening clutch to finish off the look. Be sure to tuck your dress into your pants on one side for a cool and modern feel.”
Go for the Glitter
Making a sparkly statement doesn’t always mean going all-in with sequins; sometimes it’s a more subtle shine, as in the case of Molly’s magnificent look. Here’s how she did it:
The What: “My outfit is unique because it throws the typical trendy, bright, sparkly dress out the window in place of glittery, but muted separates. There’s a lot going on in this outfit, but it works because each of the pieces complement each other with at least one similar color: the glittery gold skirt picks up on the flecks of gold in the sweater, and the sweater features flecks of pink, which picks up on the pinky tweed hue of the coat.”
The Where: “I’d wear this outfit to a grand NYE dinner and then drinks with my new hubby at our favorite rooftop bar in the city.”
The How: “To create a similar outfit, I’d advise a shopper to first pick one standout piece, like the skirt, and then create the rest of the outfit around it, adding touches of color and texture wherever possible to create a rich and vibrant, yet understated look. Vintage-inspired pieces will work especially well for this kind of look as they harken back to the romanticism of ’20s style.”
