The Style Gallery is a great new way for you to view, love, and share outfit photos. It’s meant to showcase all the expressive, creative, and inspirational personalities of our community!
Any material girl whose eyes wandered over the fabrics that frolicked down Fall 2012’s runways got a serious case of ‘weak in the knees’. Although entirely new, these fine fabrics and the ways in which they were arranged were heavily woven with olden-age inspiration. Into which eras did the designers dive? Read on to find out!

Art Deco Decoration — The designs in Holly Fulton’s print-soaked collection definitely ingested a heavy dose of art deco inspiration. Just look at one of her creations paired next to a still from the 1927 cult classic Metropolis. Uncanny similarity, isn’t it?

Beautifully Beaded Fabric— Charlestonning its way down Peter Pilotto’s runway was the gorgeous beaded dress seen above-right, a number that played an allegro melody on our heartstrings. Distracted though we were by its sheer beauty, we couldn’t help but notice how this frock’s luxurious beading hearkened back to 1920’s evening gowns.

Lace Overlays— Lace has pretty much been around since the sun was born, but using it as a dark-hued overlay to a fine frock, as with the Erdem piece above right, is something that was oft found in the 50s. Just look at the stunning Balenciaga dress at above-left, for example.

Groovy 70’s Patterns— What do 70’s wallpaper and haute couture have in common? Louis Vuitton’s fall 2012 collection! The subtly psychedelic materials that made up a number of the pieces in Vuitton’s collection have distinct parallels with the designs found on retro wall decor.
Which of these fine fabrics makes your heart flutter? Or, is there a different form of fabric you’d like to see reincarnated?

These pictures are so beautiful…love it, really!
I LOVE the beaded fabrics that serve as a throwback to the 1920’s. I’m currently doing the costume design for a local short film that’s set in that time, and I’m totally obsessed with anything from the decade. The 20’s are making a comeback, and I couldn’t be happier (it certainly makes my job easier)!
Art Deco and beaded 20’s dresses are my favorite! I LOVE Metropolis, and that comparison is spot-on!
That Balenciaga dress is indeed stunning!
