The Style Gallery is a great new way for you to view, love, and share outfit photos. It’s meant to showcase all the expressive, creative, and inspirational personalities of our community!
As our calendars fill up with holiday parties and get-togethers, we often find ourselves standing before our closets, deep in thought about which dress to don for each new occasion. Shall it be a fabulous fit-and-flare? A chic sheath? Or a flapper-inspired shift? While choosing the right dress can be a daunting task, choosing what to wear beneath that holiday dress can be equally enigmatic.
If you’ve been stumped on which pretty undergarments to pair with all the different dress silhouettes available on ModCloth (and, likely, in your closet), we’re here to help. Last week we showed you what to wear beneath a wiggle dress, and for the second installment of our silhouette styling series, we’re showcasing the perfect undergarments to wear with a classic fit-and-flare. The fit-and-flare silhouette fits exactly as it sounds, with a form-fitting bodice and flared skirt. These universally flattering dresses add classic glamour to any occasion.
To achieve a flawless foundation beneath your fit-and-flare dress, choose a structured corset that includes light boning, like the Scene Study Corset. This strapless, low-backed number is a perfect pairing for the sheer shoulders and back of the Soiree Anything Dress. A pair of high-waisted briefs adds light control and stays in place beneath the loose skirt of the dress, and layer easily beneath tights if the weather is chilly.

I know that some women feel more confident in restraining undergarments, but I think we should make sure to emphasize that these are absolutely NOT essential to looking and feeling great. Comfort is key.
Leahwise – I definitely agree that comfort is key, and it comes down to personal preference. The great thing about modern shapewear and intimates is that those pieces are often constructed with comfort in mind – unlike the rigid undergarments of yesteryear.
I love this silhouette styling series!! Extremely helpful input 🙂
Glad you’re finding it helpful! Stay tuned for the final post of the series this Friday!
