The New Black: Styling All-Grey 3 Ways

Monochrome looks are having a huge moment this year, and our current favorite is the grey-on-grey approach to outfitting. Our stylist Domonique has compiled three key looks for layering on the grey, ranging from cozy, to classy, to all-out charismatic.

Hygge to a T

Nothing says hygge quite like a pair of trusty leggings and an oversized sweater. Just because you’re super comfortable doesn’t mean you can’t also look cohesive! Here are Domonique’s tips for elevating a low-key outfit:

Tip 1: When wearing an all-grey look, opt for slight variations in color and texture to add interest, and prevent drabness.

Tip 2: Keep the shoes easygoing in case you have to put down your hot cocoa and go run some errands.

Bonus tip: Throw on a comfy pair of socks to pull everything together and stay cozy.

The Little Grey Dress

LBD, who? This updated take on the wardrobe classic is just as easy to style, but with a bit of an original twist. With Domonique’s pointers in your pocket, you’ll nail this look every time.

Tip 1: Pick a classic silhouette in a simple pattern, then build on it.

Tip 2: Just like the LBD, this garment can be dressed up, down, and tailored to the occasion. A cardigan, some tights, and velvet shoes make for a perfect festive combo just in time for the holidays!

Even though we’re all in for a head-to-toe grey outfit, sometimes, we just can’t resist a little splash of added personality. Once again, it’s Domonique to the rescue with her creative approach!

Tip 1: Find a solid sweater with some extra oomph, like this one sprinkled with sequins.

Tip 2: Add a skirt that brings out your favorite color, like the gradient of this velvet midi.

Bonus tip: Pair the skirt to a matching shoe with a funky-yet-neutral sock to ground the outfit, but still keep it fun.

About Savannah

If something's happening on stage, you can probably find Savannah there, from house shows and dramatic theater productions to faraway metal gigs and full-on festivals. Otherwise, she spends her days elbows-deep in carb-heavy meals, rattling about years spent overseas, and testing the creative limits of an all-black wardrobe.
