Three Ways to Style Spring Dresses

spring dresses

Spring has (almost) sprung so we’re turning to our style-savvy friend Kara Harms for advice on how to style spring dresses. She’s the founder of Whimsy Soul, a body positive lifestyle blog with the mission to encourage women to never settle for mediocre. Make sure to follow her adventures over on Instagram.

We’ll let Kara take it from here, and talk all things spring dresses:

Springtime—comes in like a lion, out like a lamb. And it’s just around the corner! No matter what region of the country I’ve lived in during my lifetime, spring is always the hardest one to dress for. Is it going to be borderline winter weather? Hot and almost summer like? Pouring rain? These are three ways to style spring dresses so you can be chic no matter what spring weather throws your way.

Floral dresses are always a go-to of mine for Spring. I love this Modcloth retro floral print—white and black dresses pair with almost anything, making it easy to dress for any occasion. This shift dress style also flatters curves well, making it great for all sizes (0 to plus sizes!).

During colder weather, like the kind you find in late February and early March, I love adding a pop of color to my spring clothes to brighten my mood. Here, I paired this adorably whimsical yellow scallop trimmed coat over my floral spring dress. It’s the perfect weight for springtime—not too thick, not too thin. These pale pink oxford heels are closed-toed so you can easily pair them with tights if it’s really chilly. Top off with simple accessories as that bold yellow coat is enough of a statement!

spring dressesCome April, the weather is usually a bit milder. A heavy coat over cute spring dresses like this one might too much. Instead of opting for a lighter jacket, try layering a sweater over your dress! As a curvy woman, I love wearing sweaters with midi skirts and midi dresses. (Works with a maxi dress, too!) This simple black sweater has a beautiful lace collar that has personality on its own but would make a splash with a chunky statement necklace. Pair the outfit with these cognac shoes. They are seriously the comfiest heels I have ever owned! If you’re looking for Easter dresses, this outfit combo may fit the bill.

spring dressesWhen May rolls around, it’s always much warmer…almost summer, but not quite. That’s why a dress with sleeves or a dress that covers your shoulders like this white and black spring dress is the best kind to wear solo (just in case a chilly spring breeze blows your way!). Add shoes with a pop of color like this yellow pair because they scream warm weather. So does this bamboo purse.  Lastly, I’m a sucker for bows and headscarves, so I topped this simple look off with a yellow and black headscarf.

This is one of my favorite spring dresses for women this season. It can be styled in so many ways! From skater dresses to wrap dresses, don’t be afraid to style your dresses for spring with a pop of color and a bit of personality. ModCloth is a site that always has tons of beautiful, fun springtime dresses and other pieces to shop.

About Turi

When Turi isn’t blogging, you can find her nose behind a book. But reading isn’t her only pastime. She loves running (cue jogging stroller), taste-testing pizza and burgers, and working on the next great American novel. Her latest homage to all things literary? Her son is named after writer Dashiell Hammett. How apropos.
