Spring isn’t all blossoms and butterflies. Along with the warm sunshine, the season brings with it the grisly task of sorting and reorganizing your home. To address the dreaded ‘spring cleaning‘ duties, we asked some of the ModCloth peeps to share their foolproof tips for alleviating stress and making the process as painless as possible. Hear what these industry professionals had to say about the behind-the-scenes tricks they’ve learned along the way:
Do you get a pang of guilt when you open your closet? Is it full of clothes, most of which rarely see the light of day? Try this handy trick! Turn all your hangers so the hook is open to you — this may seem a little awkward at first, but trust us. For the next month, any time you wear a garment, put the hanger back on the rack, the traditional way (hook facing away from you). At the end of 30 days, see how many hangers are still facing you. These pieces haven’t been used in over a month! This makes the decision to relinquish ownership a little less difficult. I mean, how can you argue with the facts? It’s time they find a new home! Which leads us to the next tip …
Do Good & Get Dough
We love to donate; it’s a fantastic way to help others in need! Despite that knowledge, does your wallet still cringe knowing you won’t be making any of that money back? Well we’ve got the perfect solution. Find a local consignment shop that buys gently used garments, like Buffalo Exchange, where you can sell fashionable pieces below retail prices (there are also a number of websites and apps that provide similar services). Not only can you make a little money — to put toward new clothes or helpful storage solutions — but you can make a difference by donating the rest to a non-profit organization.
Speaking of storage solutions … there never seems to be enough, does there? How about giving new life to common household items? Not only is it economical, but it’s a great way to add personality to your home. After eating up winter’s supply of pickled and jarred veggies, we inevitably have a plethora of varied mason jars sitting around. These are perfect for storing beauty essentials, like cotton swabs or cotton balls. Better yet, since you’re giving your home a scrub, what about your beauty brushes? Find two taller jars and label them: one ‘dirty’ and one ‘clean.’ Use the ‘dirty’ jar to soak your brushes in a soapy solution and then allow them to air dry in the second jar.
+ We hope these three tips make your spring cleaning less of a chore. Do you have any tricks of the trade you like to use each year? We’re always looking for pointers; tell us below!

i love this! great tips. I have a lot of trouble parting with clothes that i just might wear ‘one day’ so i put these into a bag under my bed so they are out of sight then for the next few months if i don’t find my self rummaging through there, then i know i haven’t missed these enough to want to wear and will donate them to a new home 🙁
