Right Stripes: The Clothes Horse Styles 1 Printed Dress, 5 Ways

We asked our blogger friend, Rebecca of The Clothes Horse, to pick out a fave printed piece from our site, and style it up five ways. She chose the striped Honors College Dress – a staple she’s shown is as versatile as an LBD! But we’ll let Rebecca take it from here…

“I really believe when it comes to a remix, it isn’t about choosing the most basic item you can wear with a different cardigan twenty times over, but rather choosing pieces that inspire you to get creative,” says Rebecca. ” If you find a dress you love, you’ll find original ways to wear it because you feel so special in that piece. I love stripes, and my favorite colors to wear are featured in the stripes of this dress – red and cerulean blue. As soon as I saw it, I could picture at least three outfits in my head, each dramatically different from one another, so I knew it would make a great addition to my closet.”

REMIX #1 (above) – “I like to subtly mix prints by staying in the same color scheme or just adding a printed accessory, like this scarf. It’s a nice way to pull of mixed prints without looking too chaotic since I’m really a minimalist when it comes to dressing. This is a perfect day look for me; exactly the sort of outfit I throw on for running errands or doing work. You can find the tights I’m wearing here.”

REMIX #2 – “This outfit is the essential summer look to me – it’s easy and slightly theme-y, which goes with all those summer ideals of picnics and fireworks. I’d wear this down by the water; either at a lake house or by the beach.”

REMIX #3 – “Since I’m trapped in ‘Second Winter,’ this outfit pretty much sums up how I dress lately. I like to wear summer pieces in cooler seasons; I’m big on balancing brights with neutrals and layering.”

REMIX #4 – “This outfit is very ‘night-on-the-town-dancing,’ if my friends were bigger dance fiends! The Essential Elegance Skirt moves beautifully and it’s long enough to twirl in without flashing anyone.”

REMIX #5 – “I went very girly with this outfit – it’s actually a little outside of how I like dressing lately – the bow and peter pan collar combined is just so twee, but every so often I can’t resist dressing saccharine. I made the bow belt a couple of years ago using some vintage velvet I found at a thrift store and I’m slowly reintroducing it to my wardrobe this spring.”

How would you style the Honors College Dress?

About Turi

When Turi isn’t blogging, you can find her nose behind a book. But reading isn’t her only pastime. She loves running (cue jogging stroller), taste-testing pizza and burgers, and working on the next great American novel. Her latest homage to all things literary? Her son is named after writer Dashiell Hammett. How apropos.

The first two outfits? Simply stunning! And I love how versatile she proved it to be by styling it back-to-back as first just a top, and then just a skirt!
