We’re HUGE fans of quirky prints — playful patterns that add instant personality to any outfit. As fall layers come back into season, we recommend experimenting with the countless combinations, from the imaginative to the conservative, that you can create by blending bold pieces. Here to help is Rachel, ModCloth’s Styling Manager and resident mix master. Check out her advice, and share your own tips for incorporating peppy patterns into your ensemble!

A Solid Place to Start

Say you’ve got more understated style, but you totally fall for an awesome printed piece. Try incorporating it into your look by pairing it with a solid top or skirt that’s currently in your closet — something you already love and know how to rock. Doing so will help you test the waters of bold prints, plus wearing a solid lets your statement-making print really stand out!

Mix Things Up

To combine multiple prints in your outfit, choose the piece you want to be the “loudest”, and then mix it with complementary pieces. A complementary print should be something smaller or more subdued than the main piece, but one that supports it by mimicking a similar theme or color.

Quirky Loves Company

Feel like having a li’l extra fun with fashion? Add a playful accessory to your ensemble that nods to your favorite prints or pieces. It’s an easy, adorable way to give your look even more quirk!
